Bipod recommendations

Post by Clarky75 » 15 Jul 2017, 4:37 pm

Hi All,
I am after a bipod for my CZ 452 22lr just for use at the range. Doesn't have to be too expensive as it's only for range use. Can anyone recommend anything? I noticed some cheap ones on EBay has anyone got any experience with these are they suitable for the range. I mainly shoot from the booth and bench. Any recommendations on height Etc I should look for.
Any advice would be much appreciated
Thanks

I have a few Harris , very good. I have a cheapo eBay Chinese Harris clone. I keep it attached to the rifle and it gets oiled regularly. I can't tell much difference. Long term use in the elements may tell a different story. I've only ever taken mine out hunting for day trips or overnighters. Range use, no issue. It supports the rifle with no appreciable wiggle, not much else I can say.

Here you go:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xhunter-Shooting-Swivel-Rifle-Gun-Bipod-w-POD-LOC-Tension-Lever-Pivot-6-9-9-13/262514973186

I have two, one on 223 and the other on 308. Very impressed with the quality. I had the same one on 17HMR too, works very well.

If you are shooting from the booth (Springvale) - you want 6"-9"

I have my Harris I paid an awful lot of money for in '83, and about 10-12 Chinese Ebay ones. I don't use the Harris.

The swiveling bipod is best.
For hunting you I need a lot more height than the 9" ones. I have them right up to 20" depending on how high the grass is.

OP did say for the range...

That particular link that I've posted, I buy form that guy all the time. Never had a bad experience. He's warehouse is actually 10 minutes drive from me. I am too lazy, so I will order online, but doesn't hurt when you get a random brian fart about something while driving around doing errands and can just drop by and pick it up in person.

Yep, for bench use the 6-9" is usually sufficient. Having never been to a rifle range is all informal rifle range shooting done from benches? Can you shoot from field positions as well?

I have bought from Xhunter myself, no problems at all.

For the range get a Caldwell rock rest and rear bag. Cost less than a Harris and won't ruin your accuracy jumping around on the bench

They should do the job nicely and I agree with the 6-9" length recommendation, suits shooting off benches nicely.

Usually directly onto the front sling swivel.
But you can get a few that mount differently.

Acknowledged. Nothing wrong with brands or whores.

AusTac wrote:i just happen to be awesome at breaking stuff through misfortunate accidents, so far they have survived

Oooooo spider senses are tingling, and it's not Chlamydia this time.

So, detective skills here, does this mean that you have had more Harris bipods in the past, because you are a brand whore, so stands to reason it's only Harris bipods that you have... But broke most of them and are now left with two?

Sooooo like, maybe find a new brand pimp, because Harris bipods are obviously low quality if you keep breaking them... Maybe, just saying? Because I am a f***ing detective.

I bought one of these Atlas clones from Ebay.

Ok, maybe not finished as sexy as the Real thing but at $80 and not $450, i'm not complaining. Works quite well; i even used it for f-class for a while before i got a proper f-class jobby. I still use it for F-class hunter/varmint category.

edit: oops, forgot the link! http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/atlas-bipod- ... Swy3NZYuUG

PS: extendable from 6-12".

more edits: same thing for $35! http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4-75-9-Folda ... 2242059831

Glad to help, guys. :)
I actually ended up pulling mine apart when i got it and gave it a little tickle here and there and then putting it all back together with loctite. It works. I had never used a bipod before but with a little practice i was shooting 1/2 MOA groups. Really likes a little forward loading and getting that consistent seems to be the key, for me at least.

Have a couple of knock off Harris style bipods, I am very impressed with them, so to continue with that, eBay to the rescue... Picked up this little guy or rather received in the mail (Atlas style bipod). Looks good. Feels excellent and very solid. Need to torture test it.

As above, mate, those Atlas clones benefit from disassembling, a little tickle with abrasive here and there, and putting back together with a bit of loctite. I also tricked mine a touch to increase cant, tilt and pan capability.
Works pretty good.
