Hey everyone, I'm looking at buying a starter gun for a small frame, 14 YO girl. I have a list of specs that need to be considered but not strictly followed. She has used both a Marlin xt-22 as well as a Lithgow La101. the Lithgow is, as you could guess, a little too heavy for her, however she says that it is the most comfortable to hold (shape wise). The Marlin is a great rifle however it can't quite deliver the performance we need, as it also needs to be handed down to my nephews once they are old enough.
SPECS:
Must be .22LR
Uses:
- Silhouette comps
- Field Rifle (in a year or so)
- Training (Safety and performance)
- Hunting (Mainly rabbits and birds, a few foxes at close range)
Action: Anything but semi-automatic, preferably not pump for maintenance purposes.
Weight: 2>3kg bare, there is a minimum as anything under that would cause a lack of control, she has tried one of those tiny savage single shots and hated it.
Length of Pull: between 275 and 375 mm, adjustable would be great
Barrel: 18<22" preferably hybrid/medium contour but that isn't imperative. Stainless or cerakote finish ideally
Stock: Anything that can handle a few knocks, probably synthetic, again not imperative.
Trigger: <4.5 pound adjustable or <3.25 pound fixed
must have at least 5 rounds
must have capability for scope
preferable to have iron sights
Under $1200, we have a scope and rings already
