Importing a replica of a world war 2 German handgun to SA

Hi guys,

Would I need to get a permit or a license or whatever to get a replica of a p38 semi automatic pistol in Adelaide?

The clip is non remove able but the slide functions work and it has a working action, so would I need a permit or whatever or is it legal?

As far as I know replica firearms are legal in WA and Qld only.

They are legal here in Victoria on a Collector's licence or a Theatrical Armourer's licence.

It's probably easier to apply for your Cat H licence and get a real one.

Bad news chum, as your proposed P38 has a moving slide, it is considered by SAPOL to be a working firearm under the definitions of the Firearms Act 1977.

Go to the SAPOL website and download the PDF on imitation firearms, or read about "Regulated Imitation Firearms" in the SA Firearm Regulations 2008, Section 5, Sub-section 2, para (a).

You would need an actual Cat H Licence and storage to suit. Under SA law, a properly deactivated real P38 is easier to get (maybe a fair bit dearer), or a resin replica.

Personally I agree with bladeracer, get a licence and buy a real one.
