Ordered one today. I was thinking about putting my CZ into a chassis. But at the price I thought I'd buy the Ruger. Hopefully it is a good shooter. The local price was good. Might not see it to June though :(
Might be early. :D Apparently 700 have already been ordered

Besides the chassis, are there any functional differences between this and a standard RAR? Either way it looks good for the money.

It appears to me to be the Target model in a chassis, so a heavier barrel with threaded muzzle, and the different bolt handle shape.
My Target plus the MDT LSS-22 chassis cost about double what these are listed at, so it seems like good value.
The MDT chassis is aluminium from the buffer tube to the fore end. This Ruger chassis is only aluminium in the fore end, the chassis part of it is polymer. Not better or worse, but probably significantly cheaper to make.
This is listed as a tenth of a pound heavier than the 6.7lb lami-stocked Target model, which is already 1.4lb heavier than the Compact. My Compact in the MDT chassis without scope is 3.24kg (7.14lb) (it does have two additional pic rails though and a butt pad for extra grip). I haven't worked out if this will use standard Ruger 10rd mags though, which would be annoying if you already have a bunch of mags for the Ruger Americans.

I'll quite likely end up ordering one of these anyway for comparison :-)

Will the 15 round mad be ok in Vic?

I thought the limit for detachable mags was 10

15 round mags are legal in Victoria for rimfire. The gunco ones will be shipping with a 15 round mag. I assume all Victorian retailers will be doing the same.

I ordered the model with adjustable stock. I know NSW can't have folding stocks. But I don't think they can have lenght of pull adjustment either (clickable?) anyway there was a pinned or non pinned option. The Ruger precision Rimfire has one cam lock bolt which adjusts length of stock and cheek piece. I'm guessing the non adjustable just has a fixed bolt or something?

I'm going to put one on backorder this week.

I find that my Savage Mkii is a bit short for me, now that I have a bit more experience shooting.

Then I will eventually get a good scope for it, I'm thinking a Nikon PROSTAFF Target EFR 3-9x40 AO.

It's interesting. The barrel description of he RAR Target and this RPR seem different. I wonder how the accuracy compares.

Had some fun with my RPR this arvo.
I put some M16A2 sights on it to play with open sight shooting.
I used the M16 carry handle as it allows me to QD the scope while still having the open sights available.
I filed the front sight post down to half its width in one plane for a more precise sight picture, and was shooting the 5" gongs at 47m, 60m and 74m with no misses. I've liked the M16 sights since I first fired an M16 in Army Cadets. The rear sight has two apertures for a precision and a battle sight, and has MoA click adjustment for elevation and wind. In theory the M16A2 sight should zero the precision sight at 300m, and flipping the battle sight up gives you a bigger aperture zeroed at 200m, or something like that, with 5.56x45mm. I'll have to see what the difference is between the two sights with the .22LR, although the battle sight is too coarse for hunting anyway. I think the precision aperture is about 2.5MoA higher than the battle sight. The apertures are supposed to be about 70-thou and 200-thou, but my fine aperture is 1.25mm, or 50-thou.

I also put a bunch onto paper at 101m with the scope mounted and shot a bunch of 5rd groups around the 1MoA area. I was surprised how easy it was to shoot quite well as with the scope so high I only have a very light chin weld. 150rds today is the biggest session I've managed since I got the rifle, and I still only have 438rds down the tube.

Because the scope mount rests in the carry handle I want to shim it to get another thirty minutes of cant (the RPR already has 30MoA) to get me out past 400m.

But I suspect I'm going to do a lot of shooting with this rifle without the scope as well :-)

I've been harbouring some sort of head cold for about a fortnight now but it doesn't seem to want to break. The snotting has eased off but I still feel pretty poorly. I realised it was warming up out there and the wind had mostly dropped off so I grabbed the rifle and some boxes of ammo and went for a walk to sit in the sun. It made for a very relaxing afternoon :-)

The throw-down "lever" is very cheap, I bought a bunch of them :-).

The burn pile is the last one that Bob was building before he died :-(
Rose is too ecocentric to burn stuff without good cause so we've kept it, and it keeps growing :-)
It's home to some snakes and lots of birds, and it reminds us of Bob - he had a burn on that spot every year before the bushfire season.
