Forum trip to the Cape

Post by Daddybang » 14 Feb 2018, 7:43 am

So in the lifes good thread a couple of people indicated they'd be interested in coming up here for meet and greet. I figured if people are going to put in the effort to get here then we'd be mad not to go all the way to the tip so I've started this thread to get expression of interest. I'd be looking at June next year(2019). :drinks:

I'd need notice to lock in time off and all the usual, but in principle I'm keen.

I've done from Melbourne to the Daintree before but didn't get to the cape, too deep into the wet season for it at the time :|

Keen for updates on this

I'm heading up in August with the Wife and a mate.
Wouldn't be opposed in doing it again giving all goes well the first time!

So some rough dates
Meet at my place on the 24th and 25th of may leave on the 26thand get back around the 9th of June
The reason for those dates
May is the end of the wet so weather should be good with plenty of water in the rivers etc.
From the end of Jun til around Sept/Oct it gets bloody busy up here . finding good campsites can be difficult.
Gives everyone a chance to organize work family etc.
Let me know if I'm on the right track!! :drinks:

The track that heads through Kowanyama would be a good start,,,,,

DB ol mate,,, no-one has seriously mentioned f/arms yet ????
Think I'd take something akin to an adler for the mozzies.

Why the hell would I take the track INTO kowyam!!!

Id definitely recommend bringing something along. .don't know how much shooting will be done as getting permission for a few people the landowners don't know may prove problematic but there's a couple of stations where I'll definitely ask the question and there's always the chance of a pig or dog on my block. :drinks:

The biggest problem facing you in trying to organize a trip like this is,,,,,,

1) A lot of people might want to go but very few can manage it all at the same time.
2) The process of preparing your vehicle properly, and getting a good spare parts collection, etc is often quite daunting and puts a lot of people off.
3) Then, the almighty dollar comes to play (especially in light of current fuel prices),,,, and the higher cost of it when off the beaten track.

Yeah this is true!
However the way I'm looking at it is I'm going regardless so if people are able to get here they know the dates I'm planning on leaving. I figure I'll bump this thread around every couple of months for people to keep in mind and if nobody makes it I'll post photos when I get back!!! :drinks: .
