PTA wait time in QLD

Post by Blu333 » 31 Mar 2014, 8:28 am

Hi,

Has anyone put in a PTA in QLD lately? I put one in last Tuesday (not my first) for a .308 bolt action nothing special.

I was just wondering what time frame others the match my circumstances had experienced? I have had friends tell me they have received in under 2 weeks. Does this sound normal?

Cheers

Depends completely on their load at the time I've found Blu.

Had them done in less than two weeks, or over a month.

Pot luck as far as I can tell.

I put in a permit 1 day before a mate a while ago.

Got mine back about a week and a half before him.

Random.

I've had PTA's approved lately. Best one was 5 days from online submission! Worst was about 10-12 working days I think. Call and hassle after 3 weeks ;)

From another QLD members enquiry, the response he got was

"To avoid delays in the processing of your application, it is kindly requested that you allow twelve (12) weeks from the date you applied, before making further contact with us."

GG QLD.

That 12 weeks was for Gun License not Permit to Acquire and got a call today from weapons licensing saying the police officer at the station didn't do everything right (asked him at the time if that was all he had to do and he said yes) now might have to wait another 2 to 3 weeks for my license.

Hey guys

The PTA was in the letter box when i got home this afternoon, so applied for it afternoon of the 25th and received it today on the 1st. I cant really expect any better than that, wasnt even 5 business day turn around. If you do expect better than that i think that's pretty unrealistic!!

Cheers,

Will

How do they take one day? Do you have a different system?

In VIC we can mail in the forms as paperwork and it takes a few weeks like you'd expect.

Stupid to do that in Victoria though, because... Here dealers can do the PTA over their computer for you and we normally get the approval back around a day later. Something in as little as a few hours.

Only dealers can do it over the computer though, we can't do it ourselves like that.

But yeah... Short version of the story is PTA's here take about a day if you have the dealer do it for you.

As they should.

There is no reason to make LAFO who are already licensed and own firearms wait for weeks for permits.

If you already have your first firearm you should by able to pick up whatever you want instore and do the paperwork to be submitted at the time IMO.

Hopefully not long.

I've had a few mates put in for them over the past month or two and got them back in about a fortnight.

Hopefully they haven't gotten busier since for yours.

Does anyone have any info on SA times by any chance? The paperwork for my second firearm would have been sent off from the seller on Monday (9-5-14) and I'm just curious as I can't find much on how long they take after the initial 28 days cooling off period.

Got my two PTA's today, and i applied for them a bit more than a month ago (4th of july, funny that too). Those were my first pta's, so i had to wait 28 days... so pretty good i reckon. Except that i called the gunshop and my savage mkII isnt here yet... oh well, back to waiting...

Yes I know but 15 weeks seems excessively long for 2 years ago since firearm license applications have increased by 37% in the last 12 months alone and Ive been told 12 weeks before mine comes through. It takes longer if you apply in person at the cop shop because weapons licensing deal with the online apps first before touching hard copy apps, hence the reason for my question. I applied online so am curious to see if it takes the 12 weeks they estimate.
