Warm sleeping bag?

Post by Bigjobss » 27 May 2018, 1:59 pm

Can anyone recommend one around $100 that will be warm in sub zero conditions?

My current bag is fine to around zero but found the last couple weeks in the high country have been getting a bit chilly the last couple hours before sunrise, not bad at all really, I just want to be as comfortable as possible.
Not worried about size or weight, and it will be purely a winter bag.

Your budget is a touch low for a really good bag. I have one of these - https://www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/produc ... ipper.html but the coldest I've used it was around 4 degrees.
Add one of these- https://www.anacondastores.com/camping- ... BP90026888
And you'd be toasty for just over $100 and have a bonus summer bag.
Or just get the liner and use your current bag :unknown:

Thats awesome the liner looks like a winner, my cureent bag is pretty good quality which is why I dont want to spend much on a second bag that will not be used as much, thanks for the advice.

Hi bigjobss.
I went a different route.
I spent $15 on a cheap microfibre quilt when a department store had stocktake sale around 7 or 8 yrs ago..
I had a girlfriend with a sewing machine cut it down (it was a queen so just ripped it down (cut it) so its just wide enough to cover the bag & down the sides).
Its maybe a little bulky when folded up but squashes down or rolls up to pretty small.
I figured if i destroy it in 2 years i dont care...8 yrs on & its still going strong & VERY warm.

As a carpenter, i also have a length of 'Kingspan Aircell" foil insulation i kept off a job (6mm thick)--its rated to R 1.6 & is cut to the size of my swag to stop the cold coming up from the ground & reflect my body heat back up at me, its very effective & just rolls up in the swag.

Last year i also bought a better bag, but even before that i was toasty as...!!!

If you are happy with your bag to 0 degrees C then you'll be plenty toasty with my suggestion.

Any foil will do the job, just put a blanket on it if its not the insulated sarking/foil.

If there's a Daiso store near you they have 60cm X 200cm Heat insulation sheets, thin foam backed stuff that works well. And its cheap as. $2.80 a roll.

I hope I didn't offend you RJ. My mind starts to whirl when some says "if you only knew".
Need to find myself some Diaso outlet.
