Anyone shooting Lapua rimfire ammo?

G'day.

Lapua rimfire is making it's way into my LGS now. Along with the Lapua price tag obviously...

They have the Midas+ ammo which is supposedly 'new and improved' and are expecting some of the top ammo X-Act soon.

Might give it a try for kicks, but wondering if it's worth the price if you're not competing... Or even at all...

Any other rimfire ammo as good as this? (cheaper would be a plus )

No experience, but Center-X is their cheaper ammo.

Worth a try without quite as much expense I guess.

My Anschütz loooves RWS club... Out shoots plenty of the guys with rifles and ammo that are twice the price and it's only $7 a box.

Don't discount some of the cheaper stuff.

My brno model 2 doesn't seem to like CCI target rounds. What do others find works well in a model 2. CCI rounds seem all over the place. Used mainly for target plinking with the odd crow.

I couldn't get any of the CCI stuff to shoot in my Anschütz. Tried the standard target ammo, Stingers, I think the 'Select' one and another subsonic line.

Got about 0.9" - 1.5" out of them all.

The RWS ammo I'm shooting is there 'club' which shoots under 0.15" so it's not the rifle either...

Mine likes the Winchester 40 gn subsonic. I have not tried the 42 gn. For plinking I use the T22. Gives the same POI.

Nothing to do but buy a dozen boxes of different ammo and see what shoots best for the old rimfire.

Might be Lapua, might be the cheapest of the bunch.

Try Federal Gold #719,or SK Rifle Match,neither are expensive,

For Target Shooting I went through about a dozen varieties from cheap to bloody expensive as in Elley Match Black Box but I found SK Rifle Match for a third the price performed almost as well BUT then I made a Rim Thickness Gauge and batched a few hundred on rim thickness. They now out perform the expensive Elley Match rounds.

Cheap CCI Standard Velocity also improved by rim thickness batching but the number of different batches is unreal. The SK ammo is already factory batched but not exactly and can be improved as any other rimfire ammo. I had one main batch with the SK and a few dozen in two other batches which when fired as a batch were just as good as the main lot but a different POI on the target.

For a factory rifle if you can go and buy as many different boxes of ammo you can afford and try each to see which suits your particular rifle. What works in my Brno maybe doesn't work in yours. I had not long ago a 1985 Brno Model 2E and it liked different ammo.

If you have a custom target rifle with barrel tuner then it may be a different story.

My model 2 Brno seems to like Winchester Power Points in subs and the 40gn, I tried the 42gn but they didn't seem to shoot as well but still useable for hunting purposes (which is all my rifles are for anyway) - as everyone said just buy a few boxes of diff brands/projectile weights and see what it likes best.

Give the barrel a clean after changing each brand as they all seem to use diff types of lube on em too which seemed to have had an effect on results if I didn't clean mine between them (not sure why but it did seem to affect the results slightly) so I just put a few patches through (no solvent or anything) and that seemed to make a reasonable difference then.

Those 42gr Winchesters are obviously working for someone because they keep selling em. No idea who though, everyone I've seen shoot them seems to get pretty ordinary results.

Are they too heavy/long for rimfire twist barrels or something?

Most 22LR ammo is 38gr - 40gr right?

Is that a concern for rimfire stuff?

Wow. Same rifle different results? I'm using my 1416 as a hunter and those 42 grn Win are shooting a treat.

Different horse, different course I guess but we both are on the same horse?

Most Anshultz's shoot most Ammo real well IMHO

That's all the ammo I tested in my 1416DHB.

Shot five 10-shot groups with every ammo and posted the best results there.

The only ammo I still want to try is the RWS R50 and their R100.

Other than that I'll continue to use the RWS Club as it was easily the winner.

That Club RWS sure does look like a winner might have to get a brick and see how it shoots for metal silhouette

Centre - X works very well in my custom job but then it shoots almost all brands well (group size). Bruno 1 receiver Madco S/S 1.1" fluted barrel, match chamber in a Spag'y silhouette walnut stock - Lynx 6-24 x42 fine X scope. Although not strictly legal for benchrest hunter class, regularly does 248-249 & only once (on a really good day) a 250/250, all with Lapua Centre-X.

I did batch some Win HP subs a while back, for weight & rim thickness & managed 245+ across about 4 shoots.

The Lapua (to me) is worth the extra compared to most other brands, just got to test the batch/brick & see what happens.
(I haven't found the time to batch the Lapua yet)

Can't say I've ever read twist being and issue for 22LR?

Suppose there is a big difference between 38-42 grain bullets in a 22 compared to 110-200 grain bullets in a .308.

Can't call myself an expert but obviously 2 very difference ranges there.

Most factory rimfires are 1-16" have a look at the after market for the others, one in 9" all the way up to one in 19".

If you have the money - you could do the testing

Honestly when I had my marlin .22 they were the only ones I'd give the time of day for. Worked great, but I think I was the only one in town lol
