Lever action shotgun recommendations? How does Adler compare

Post by Anvilman » 19 Jun 2018, 9:47 am

My mate has an adler 12G lever action shotgun, I'm just wondering peoples thoughts are on them.

What others are good or better and why?

If its a good fit for you yes, personally I dont like the ergonomics. The Adler is ok for a cheap repeating shotgun, but nothing special, I bought one and it'll do me. Not many people would have bought more than one type to compare :unknown:

A bloke I know has bought the Adler and the Pardus. Pardus is now up for sale. He was trying to make an IPSC competition gun. Haven’t shot or handled the Uzkon or the Emerald. The Alpha arms doesn’t feel right to me, kind of short and cramped, but then I am pretty tall so it might suit someone who is a bit shorter. I would try and have a play with as many as I could and pick the one that suits you.

Actually you haven't said what your main use or budget is going to be. The best choice for you may be an O/U or SXS :unknown:

Funny how everyone was so "Adler" crazy and now the shine has worn off we are getting real world info on what they are like.

Kinda glad I didn't get one now but a good repeating shotgun would be very handy...
Anyone got suggestions what ones ARE good, legal and affordable???

I have an Uzkon and am quite happy with it. It's an $800 shotgun so I didn't expect the quality of a Beretta or Miroku but it was purchased as a scrub gun and as that it does the job perfectly. It's only had about 120 rounds through it but has not failed once, the action was a little tight when new but nothing like my mates Pardus whick is really clunky if you try and cycle it slowly but it works ok if you really get up it. I also think the way the lever operates the bolt is a much better design as it doesn't have a linkage on the back of the lever to the rear of the bolt like the Pardus, Adler and Alpha Arms.

having tried the pardus ,adler, and uzkon at various times uzkon is smoothest cycling by far but they are all a bit rough really but hey they are cheap arse shotties if i were buying one i would go a straight pull the new dickenson arms straight pull looks like a good option designed as a straightpull from the get go apparently

i like my alder its been better then i thought it would be
does it run like a winchester 94 well no.
i dont get the straight pull thing... atleast with a lever your finger goes back on the trigger... think id buy a bolt action 12g goose gun or something before a straight pull... then just look like broken semi autos

I’ve got an Adler and can’t say anything bad about it, only problem I’ve had was with corrosion (external), Nioa fixed this problem by cerakoting it for me free of charge, they did give me the option of a new replacement as well but I was more than happy with how my gun functioned and I didn’t want to risk getting one of the clunkers which is why we opted for the cerakote.
The action on my Adler is every bit as easy and smooth to cycle as my Marlin 336 SS and it shoots straight too, I’ve been lucky I think as from reports this isn’t the norm with the Adler.

I like my Adler, though I cant compare it with anything.
I keep the rifled choke on all the time and loaded with home made Slug loads. Shoots them really well. keeps them on a 6 inch plate at 50 yds.
The lever action is still a bit tight and is getting a bit painfull with the arthritis in my fingers if I try to shoot fast.
Thinking of a pistol grip type mod where I can use the lever like a pistol grip and move it with my whole hand not just the back of my fingers..

i think they are hypocrites, they have a warranty send it back, they mention that one of their marlin lever guns had to be sent back... thats no issue for some reason?
i dont dislike their channel or them personally but just seemed stupid.

mate of mine has an uzkon lever shotgun and the thing has been back twice... think its just luck of the draw really

Just watched that vid & i tend to agree with you cracker...
He states/implies towards the end that it wouldnt even cycle through an entire magazine-in which case you could address it differently by sending it back to be fixed if the problem was so obvious...then pass it on to someone who cant afford one that would really appreciate it...!!

yeah i dont get it... ? think i paid $750 for mine like 18months ago and its been good, you can put two shots in the air pretty easy at clays - im s**t a clays.
you could empty it with semi aimed shots in less then 3 seconds id guess? compared to my pump action which you can empty like in less then 2 prob... but big deal.

the way I look at it Stix is you would create enemy's by gifting a piece of sh!t like that gun to someone
I believe this one would never be any good no matter who had it so you wouldn't be doing someone a favour by gifting it to them
at least they didn't try to sell it on to someone else thinking they were onto a bargain, it was there loss to destroy it
they did say these guns were hit and miss and some they had repaired were fine
I know a bloke who bought one for himself and his son, they got one good one and one crap one that was sent back to the shop several times at his cost for warranty work that was never any good but the good one was good, toss a coin with the adler :sarcasm: :drinks:

the impala i wasnt so impressed with. had a look at one and you have to physically grab the knob to pull the bolt back.

there is a dickinson t1000 in my safe (belongs to a mate), its a nice bit of kit. takes one finger to pull the bolt back.

my adler works well now. went back under warrenty and they honed out the chamber a bit to fix the extraction issues it was having.

Hey marksman, i only thought of gifting it to an appreciative shooter if it were fixed under w'tee & working...i bet such an act would get them more views..!!

At the risk of being a fuddy duddy, whilst i didnt find the video offensive, i didnt find it amusing either.
I feel they could have made the point that the gun was a dud without being so destructive... :unknown:

the only point i see in the vid is them fancying themselves on screen...

But fair enough, it is their loss to destroy, & definately a good thing they didnt sell it on.

I must admit there has been the odd occasion ive wanted to utterly destroy my shotgun...those times i cant even hit a clay if one were taped on the end of the barrel.

I don't disagree with you stix, at all if it were like you said "fixed under w'tee & working"
I've only ever destroyed one firearm (on purpose) in my life
it was meant to be left to me in my uncles will after he passed but there was to much arguing about it so I angle grinded it in half before handing it in
problem solved :violin: :drinks:

I have a impala plus

First time I shot it I put 3 rounds through and the charge handle fell off.

Took back to gun shop replaced bolt and charge handle.

Put 30 rounds through it and same thing happened.
