scope settings

Post by juddge » 17 Oct 2018, 3:56 pm

hi guys i am a new gun owner
i have sighted in my new gun and rifle

however i have downloaded the ballistics calculator for the scope
bushnell trophy 4-12 x 40

the calculator says for 50m zero
i need elevation 4.8 U moa to shoot at a 25m target

now does this mean clicks or actual moa - so if 1 click is 1/4 moa then i need 19 clicks up ?
ur do i need 4.8 clicks up ?

just trying to get my head around the adjustments on the scope

thanks in advance

Ballistics is usually given regardless of the scope adjustment.
4.8MoA would be 18-19 clicks on a 1/4MoA turret.
I use the AR Optics 4.5-18x40's on my rifles.
I've been shooting .22LR out to 355m the last few days - 65MoA up from a 55m zero. A turn of the turret is 15MoA (60 clicks), so four full turns plus 5 - 260 clicks.

ok cool, so the ballistic data is in moa and the clicks are 1/4

so if it says 1 moa then i need 4 clicks in the direction

i understand that now - thankyou

Yep, that's how it works.
Now you need to get your head around MoA being a "fluid" measurement that varies in length depending on the range. IMoA is always 1MoA whether it's at five meters or a thousand meters. You might know that your target is 300mm wide, so if you need to move across half a target width, or 150mm, you would need to calculate what 150mm is in MoA at that distance. It's far easier to read off your reticle how many MoA you need to move, and turn the turret that amount.
