It's called a Ruger 96/22. Standard magazine = 10 rounds. Will accept an aftermarket magazine of up to 50. There may even be larger ones, but not necessarily in this land of firearms freedoms.

There are no mag restrictions on a 22 but having said that I doubt you would get away with a 50 odd round drum mag and certainly cannot see a B709 being issued for one. Isn't there a normal 15 round mag available for that gun.
If you get caught with a homemade 50 round drum mag be prepared to loose your licence and gun.

Unless there is a specified limit in the law then I can't see any problem with owning whatever size mags you wish to.
In Victoria you can modify a firearm provided it maintains minimum barrel and overall lengths and does not change its category. You can convert a single-shot .22LR to a repeater (15rd max) as it's still CatA, but you can't convert it to centrefire CatB or semi-auto CatC, at least not without approval. You can change chambering but it has to be notified on the registration.
