Hi, I recently did a bit of offshore fishing in a workmates boat, probably about 70 km out.
What I'm keen to find out is, is it okay to take my shotgun and a carton of clays out with us for a bit of fun?
We both have current firearm licences.
The claim: Indonesian politician Tantowi Yahya says it is illegal for Australia to turn back asylum seeker boats in international waters.
The verdict: Mr Yahya's statement is correct, but there is more to the story. The Government cannot legally turn back boats in international waters. But the Government can legally turn back asylum seeker boats intercepted within 24 nautical miles of the Australian coastline, provided it is safe to do so.

Before you get there though, is there a 'lawful reason' top have a shotgun on a boat while your still in Australian waters? Especially at the beach where there is no hunting/shooting allowed.
I'd be very surprised if that that was cool, especially in WA? We know how those laws are...
