A Handy Tool For Those Without a Chrono

Post by Gaznazdiak » 21 Nov 2018, 10:20 pm

For those like me, without all the flash testing jiggery-pokery, a handy resource for calculating muzzel velocity.

With calculation presets for:

6.5 Grendel
.223
.243
308
.357 Magnum
.45 Auto

Is anyone with a chrono willing to test the accuracy of this tool for those of us who don't?

I'd be interested in how close their algorithms come to reality.

so after putting in existing data I already have the velocity estimator said 2839fps and my actual chronograph velocity is 2834fps

I would say close enough :drinks:

Maybe the chrono needs calibrating marksman.

I tried using a 223 load that has been tested and it estimated about 50fps faster and placed a warning that the load was massively over pressured. Load is 25 gr 2206h on a 55 gr soft point... Still the speed is about the same.

these types of programs can never be 100% accurate as the burn rate of the powder can change from batch to batch
also you have to find the internal volume by weighing the water in a fired in that chamber case for the program
it seemed close enough for me for those who dont have a chronograph to be able to get some ballistics for drop at distance :drinks:
but you still need to real world test the drops at distance even with a chronograph reading

I got the same warning for a 243, with a 107 grain bullet using Retumbo, 51 grains was good for 3580 fps. I can only get a bit over 3200. Perhaps I messed it up.
