Travelling from Vic to Qld

Post by Grizzle » 21 Nov 2018, 9:14 am

Hi all,
I've planned a trip from Central Vic to Yarwun in Qld in the coming weeks.
I've done as much research as I can regarding taking rifles with me, possibility;ilty of hunting private land in Qld that the relatives own.
I'll be taking 3 rifles.
Ruger precision rimfire.
Tikka .204
Browning 30.06
So, the ute has a lockable canopy, rifles will be stored in locked steel drawers screwed to the floor, chamber & trigger locks fitted. Ammo & Mags in steel safe inside the cabin. I'm hoping this will cover storage regs.
Anything I've missed?

Thanks Daddybang. Yeah, been watching the fires. Good thing is I have cousins up there who will keep me posted, plus, being just me and puppy, I don’t have to be anywhere in particular at any given time.

This is how the girls will be travelling, trigger locks, breech locks, mags in the ammo safe, locked in fixed steel draws on locked canopy. So help me, if anyone questions it, I’ll explode!

If your Ruger Precision Rimfire has a folding stock you can't take it through NSW. Folders are illegal in NSW and if you get stopped with one you are boned.

Thanks for the tip Chinballs. It's not a folder, but your comment prompted a bit of research.
It seems that it is possible that the precision rimfire may not be legal in NSW at all. I refer to item 7 below. However, some sellers websites say it is approved, but other don't include NSW in th approval listing.
Do any of you guys have one in NSW?

--------------------------------------
SCHEDULE 1 – PROHIBITED FIREARMS
(cf APMC 1, Sch 1 PW Act)

(Section 4 (1))

1

2
Any self-loading rimfire rifle (including any such firearm described elsewhere in this Schedule).

3
Any self-loading centre-fire rifle (including any such firearm described elsewhere in this Schedule).

4
Any self-loading or pump action shotgun (including any such firearm described elsewhere in this Schedule).

4A
Any lever action shotgun with a magazine capacity of more than 5 rounds (including any such firearm described elsewhere in this Schedule).

5
Any self-loading centre-fire rifle of a kind that is designed or adapted for military purposes.

6
Any self-loading shotgun of a kind that is designed or adapted for military purposes.

7
Any firearm that substantially duplicates in appearance (regardless of calibre or manner of operation) a firearm referred to in item 1, 5 or 6.

Nah you'll be fine. The Ruger Precision rifles are perfectly legal in NSW as long as the stock is pinned.

The importer (Nioa) brings in the pinned version specifically for NSW and ACT customers.

"Pinned" is just the lingo used to refer to a normally folding/telescopic stock which has been permanently fixed.
