Leather gun case

Post by bladeracer » 18 Dec 2018, 4:57 pm

I was given a really nice shotgun case yesterday that was going to the tip!
Although I didn't expect it to be long enough for my 30" Stoeger it actually is.
But, the barrel cavity doesn't seem wide enough to take the over/under barrels, and certainly not with the forend installed on them.
Might be designed for a side-by-side gun perhaps, or a single-barrel?

I was thinking maybe it's a relatively known design and somebody might be able to tell me what sort of gun I need to buy to fill it :-)

Could be a case for a break-action rifle perhaps rather than a gun?

I suspect he had the same problem, doesn't have anything that'll fit in it and can't determine what it might be designed for. Not a huge market for mystery items :-)

I saw it in the corner and mentioned it looked like a Mauser C96 holster :-)
His response was "No idea, grab it if you like it, it's going to the tip.", so I did!

So I need to buy a side-by-side gun next!
I might have to take it to a shop and see what they have that fits it, something with exposed hammers would be nice :-)

It looks like it's had a busy life, hasn't just sat in the safe, but it doesn't look like it's been thrown down the road yet either :-)

I've got a fun SxS coach gun with external hammers that would love to live in that if you decide you can't fit anything in it.. :-)

Generous offer BA :-)
I'll try to fix the problem by buying some more guns first though :-)

G'day bladeracer,
Needs a bit of restoration, but still a good "Leg 'o Mutton" case worth $300 to $500. Perhaps more if you can find a makers label and date it. It screams out for a 30" Damascus barrelled hammer gun, Cheers.
