5mm Remington Magnum

Text taken from another Aus sales site.

5mm REM MAG rimfire ammo again available from AGUILA AMMO, Texas USA.
(paraphrased)If anybody with a 5mm rem mag who is looking for ammo, a production run is under way with ammo available in the USA early January.

I don't know if we have an Aguila importer here, but it might be worth a nudge at your local dealer. There must be a lot of 5mmRM firearms still out there that are looking to be fed.

There is an "advert" on buyusedguns, but all that it says is that production is currently under way, for delivery in the US during January.
Probably wouldn't be available here a few months down the track at best. Is there an Aguila importer here?

You wont find them anywhere in your centrefire reference material. They're a rimfire. Dates from around 1970.
Maybe a copy of "Cartridges of the World" would be a good crissy pres for your book shelf

whilst the idea of a flat shooting 5mm Rimfire sounds appealing, the reality is the Remington made a very poor quality gun and no other manufacturer jumped on board.

I had 1 and it shot ok, but the bedding st up was poor and the trigger was teribble, I still have some 5mm Rem mag cases lying around.

deye243 I dont think you'd need something that heavy, best 17hmr round is the 17gr CCI Varmit, and it runs around 2700fps. If a 22gr 5mm Varmit round was released at similar speed or higher say 2800-2900fps Id be all over 1.

I guess we can only dream thou

I wouldn't hold your breath on that. I'm still waiting on someone to make a rifle in .17 WSM that I want to buy, it has a superior trajectory and similar energy to the 5mm Remington Magnum, and I'm not holding my breath on that score. I guess the 5mm has an advantage there since you could re-chamber .22 WMR/.17 HMR rifles for it (with some beefing up for the higher pressures) whereas the cartridge length of the WSM requires an entirely new action to utilise it unless you do a Ruger and use a short centerfire action which isn't really ideal.

Right at the top of my fantasy wish list is something like the WSM chambered in .204 or even .22. Now that would solve all my pest control needs.
