I've been playing with my scope off the rifle. Just getting an idea of eye relief, adj diopter so that reticle is in focus etc. I really like it. I like being able to focus on stuff - it makes the difference of seeing a number plate and then being able to read it. Especially noticeable under 50 m. Mine has mil dot. The adjustments are also mil dot. I like it - it is simple. Although this picture is from leupold, it isn't accurate. I just looked through my scope again - the dots and lines are smaller, better. It is also a larger view all over - for example the posts are much longer. The circle in this picture is too small for the dimensions of the reticle - not an accurate depiction at all.

This is the TMX in my Hawke, it looked way too busy when I first got it, but once I started using the app with it for range finding and holdovers etc, I really like it now.

I think a lot of it comes down to personal taste, although I chose this one because I had delusions of competing in F-Class and the TMX is designed for shooting to 1000yd.

I like the tmx too. For me that stuff is there if you want to use it. For all the times that you don't use it, it doesn't matter :) I'm happy to have something - and the fact that the markings match up with the adjustments (mil/mil), that's just useful.

Hawke Endurance with the illuminated dot reticle......comes in a variety of models, some with side focus, some not......kick ass in low light too as i can vouch for them on many occasions.......

Probably too late now, but I have a Leupold 3Xi 4.5x14x50 on my 223 and I love it. I have Redfield and Japanese TASCO on my rimfire rifles and they are OK but the Leupold is a big step above for glass clarity and simple but crisp reticle. Cost is around the $1000 mark but a good scope is something you should be able to have for a long long time without needing to replace it. This scope is also VERY GOOD at night when spotlighting.
I bought a Bushnell and sold it within a year, the reticle was so thick it seemed to block the critical part of what I was trying to shoot.

NOIA TV did a comparison between 4 scopes to see how they performed in low light - because sometimes ur out there at the crack of dawn or late into the day. Leupold and Meopta came out best out of the 4. Swarovski and Zeiss didn't fair so well....

I've really only looked through a few Leupolds and a couple of Burris scopes but just about everyone I've asked about the Meopro range loves them. I'm looking at putting a 3.5-10X44 on my T1X when I get it. Having said that I still plan on looking through some scopes when I'm down at the store and seeing what tickles my fancy.

If you haven’t purchased yet - have a look at this app. It’s free.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sniper- ... 1026883819

Once you have a load selected - you can choose from hundreds of late model scopes, zoom appropriately to the range of that actual scope - and see exactly how a number of different targets and their size will appear through the selected scope / reticle.

hit youtube and type in NIOA TV - SEASON 5 / EPISODE 3

not the most scientific testing but the Swaro Z3 gets an absolute pasting by the Nioa eggspurts. I suspect they were being kind by placing the Leupold VX3i equal first place with the Meopta Meopro.

Good stuff. I have heard from a couple of blokes that they have nearly ran out of elevation at 100 years when sighting in, they have either put a 20moa rail on or shimmed the back ring.
Do you have yours on a rail? I have seen a few on the Howa Facebook page just on rings with no mention of running out of elevation.

Nioa don’t import Swarov’s or Zeiss to my knowledge, nor do they import Meopta’s but they’d have good reason to praise the loopy’s

Perhaps a scope comparison made by a Swarovski importer would have a different outcome?

There’s a food write up in a recent aust shooter between Leo 4-12/40 and Swarovski equal which was 44 from memory. I think from further memory the author was just a casual contributor comparing two scopes he owned.
The Leo was $860 and swark was $1500 from memory.
The author commented on how similar the glass was, and saidcthe swark had firmer / solid clickers - apart from that they were more or less very, very equal, so with the price difference in play, was hard to justify the extra cost.

Swaro Z3 is there budget scope, it def aint no high end product, looked thru em a few times and they seem ok wasnt bowled over. Had 2 Zeiss terra's and they are just plain cheap, got rid of em. Currently using 3 Meopta's and so far well pleased. Meostar RGD really realy clear, big fan of the 1 moa illuminated dot reticle Meopta do.

no Mag or online show has the balls to do a blind box scope test in this country, be interesting I reckon.

Can you get a Swarovski Z3 with a 44 objective lens? I thought the Z5 had the 44 lens.

I have a couple of Leupold VX3 long range scopes and the glass is decent but I wouldn't like to compare them with double the price European optics.

everything is subjective...but this owner of both vx3 and the double the price swark z3 - rates the Leo equal on image quality, better on warranty, and much better on price...

I must say that the Leupold warrenty is great, they fixed my thirty year old scope with no questions asked. Swarovski might be the same.

The two images in the article look very different, I am betting the left hand image is the Swarovski but both images are fine for hunting. I wonder if the author did a comparison between the Leupold and a Bushnell worth half as much, his conclusions might be the same.

For guys using the Swarovski and loving it, good for you. I like using my Leupolds but wouldnt suggest they are the best value out there.

I’m confused as well now - “no way a vx2 will be as good as a vx2”??

For clarification -The article refers to a vx3 vs a Z3.

I said from memory the article said... - and my memory ain’t what it used to be...so I dug through 50 mags and dug out the article - cause I wanted to clarify. I thought you might have had some real world experience with Your comment re “I doubt a vx2 would be anywhere near a swarkovski” well...what swarkovski? Or did you mean any swarkovski?

My understanding is that the diff between vx2 and Vx3 is a 1% increase in light gathering ability, custom turret selection, more reticle choice and more robust internals. So not really a huge visual difference in real world light at least.

I’ve looked through some top end swarks including z8I and various z5’s and they are good, very good - but I’m not convinced they are triple the $$$ better...?? I haven’t looked in a Z3 as yet. It seems to me that swarkovski is known as a premium European brand name and whilst you’ll get a fantastic product, you’ll also pay a lot for that name on the side?

No sure what you are saying Bill. I did say that if you compare a $600 scope to a $1200 scope and can't justify the extra money. Why stop there, compare a $250 scope to a $600 scope and you may conclude that you don't get much more for your money.

For me, I bought a Nightforce Competition series scope, if someone beats me using a $600 Leupold I will then consider that I wasted my money.. I was using a cheaper scope but was beaten by Nightfoce users. I thought if I couldn't beat them I would join them.

Don't get sucked in to the light gathering ability thing there is a hole lot of more important things like contrast depth of field and chromatic aberration and over the years I have had about 6 vx2 and 9 vx3 and the 3 win hands down but then again most of my scope work is at night and a NF NXS leaves them all for dead day or night

For me, I bought a Nightforce Competition series scope, if someone beats me using a $600 Leupold I will then consider that I wasted my money.. I was using a cheaper scope but was beaten by Nightfoce users. I thought if I couldn't beat them I would join them.

I had 2 bushnell on rifles over the last 2 years as gap fillers till cash flow allowed an upgrade, terrible under a spotlight, very critical eye relief they were really only useful for range pinking. Gave 1 away to a mate kids and sold the other to a mate for $100 despite being new, I sold it being very budget knock about scope, let's not polish what really is a turd of a scope.
