Replacement firearms licence wait times?

Post by Ham » 23 Dec 2018, 5:42 pm

Hey all,new here loving the content of the forum.

So I've put in my paperwork for a replacement licence. Just wondering if anyone knows the approximate wait time
(presumably itll be longer being this time of yr).

Seriously hoping it wont take as long as the original application.

Depends on what State you're in hopefully not NSW lol (but possibly replacements might be a good deal faster to acquire than the original licence, if that isn't being too logical)

I see that you are in Qld :)
It is my understanding, and experience, that irrespective of how "early" you submit your renewal application, WLB do not start the process until such time as it is due to expire. The legislation allows a 42 day "grace" period after expiration that they have in which to process your application.

Continuation of licence until renewal application dealt with

(1) This section applies if—
(a) a licensee applies under section 18 for the renewal of a licence; and
(b) the application is not decided on or before the day the licence expires.

(2) The licence, as in force immediately before its expiry, continues in force, as if it had not expired, until the first of the following happens—
(a) the authorised officer deciding the application approves the application and renews the licence;
(b) the authorised officer deciding the application rejects the application and gives the applicant the notice of rejection under section 19(1);
(c) 42 days elapse after the licence’s expiry.

Pretty straight forward, really.
