On holidays at the moment so it’s time for another leather project.
My Martini Henry Interchangeable Carbine Mk1 is possessed of recoil that is truly brutal and likely to cause concussion! They were bad enough in service that a reduced 75 grain powder load was made for them.
My I.C. 1 was reissued the the Vic. education Dept. (probably in the 1890s) most likely to a cadet unit and the stock shortened to better fit smaller shooters which SIGNIFICANTLY adds too the felt recoil.
Now, I don’t mind big kicking guns but this thing is crazy - I can’t imagine a school kid in cadets wanting to fire it more than once!
My solution is the leather lace on recoil pad. It has 2 pieces of exercise mat and a loose leather piece in it to lengthen the stock by 1 1/4” and soak up some energy.
