Light for safe

Post by Zappa » 08 Jan 2019, 4:14 pm

I'm thinking a rectangular torch with a magnetic base wired with a lever micro switch hot glued to the inside of the door .
Found one at bunnings for $7 that claims 340 lumens out of its LEDs.

Door opens , light comes on.
What have you guys fabricated? ( for the ones that cant afford a swanky safe )

I have a similar one to these stuck to the under side of the internal lock box.
Battery operated, double sided tape and comes on when you open the door.

Torch, now that mention it though, a light would be good. Might just look into that.

i cant vouch for these but if you want something easy to operate ( easy to flick on in the dark) you could stick a few of these in there.

250 lumen? should be plenty enough for an average 6 gun safe. I'll pick up a couple tomorrow and review.

You should put a light in there if you're going look into it ;-)

I generally have two LED AAA torches clipped to my collar 24/7, and at least one torch on my belt or in a pocket. We also have a half-dozen head lamps always on charge. Dark out here is really bloody dark :-)

I fitted a slimeline 240V flouro that is about 200mm long that I got at Bunnings. Its heaps bright. The sort that is designed as a cabinet light. I drilled a small hole in the back of the safe for the cable. I leave it on 24/7 and the warmth from it keeps the humidity down an I don't have to worry about switching it on.

I just have a cheap motion activated magnetic hunt pro one that came with the safe, get about 6 months out of a set of batteries. Not hugely bright, but it does the job

Thinking about one of these, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnCzhXrhoJc but a bit worried it it might not be bright enough.

I can vouch for these- they work an absolute treat - I have two of them in the safe- one stuck under the ammo compartment with the supplied double sided adhesive Velcro, and one on the side of the safe. They throw plenty of light. Price is right and batteries are replaceable.
The toggle "old school " light switch is large and easy to " feel " blind in the safe in complete darkness. Just because they are cheap doesn't mean they aren't a great solution.
Not sure how the middle kingdom manufactures and freights them to MR Wesfarmers ( bunnings )
for the money !
