https://www.wildoutdoors.com.au/gunslic ... lvent.html^This stuff is what I cleaned it with after 40 rounds ^
It says it removes copper but it didn't really seem to, maybe I didn't leave it long enough, but didn't see more than the most tiny amount of blue streaking, I need to get a Nylon brush I think, hard to know when its clean since I only have a bronze one and it could be giving me false positives.
Also as far as what I am going to hunt with a 30-06
well I sorta figure it should be good for anything in Australia I point it at within 300-350 yd or so assuming I hit it right.
With the possible exception of buffalo, but maybe even that with a 200g barns and a toasty load could be a thing id have to look into that harder, them things seem dangerous and mean and I don't even know where I would find them.
Mostly I'm after goats, deer (all types) and pigs
Main requirements when I was picking the rifle was:
-Synthetic stock that I actually liked the feel and look of , this was hard to find as they all felt pretty "plastic" except the bell and Carlson which felt nice and solid and looks really nice for a synthetic in my opinion.
-Stainless barrel, fluted nice to have but not a big deal
-.270 or higher so I can go for deer in Vic without stressing over what type it is / if its legal (I go 4x4/camping up in the high country whenever I can find the time off work)
-I already had a Trijicon 3-9x40 Accupoint and together I wanted rifle and scope to weigh somewhere in the region of 3.5-3.6kg unloaded so not overly heavy, scope is 380 grams so rifle had to be 3.1 - 3.2 kg at most.
-$2100 ish or less ( I went over this unfortunately because the AUD dropped after I already decided and prices on everything went up)
As you mentioned getting one in .308 was nigh on impossible, between that and kind of being a bit of a history buff I ended up deciding I would just go the 30-06 since it still met all my requirements. 7mm-08 could have also been a thing but they had none of them either, .270 (in stock) seemed a bit too specialised and lacking bullet weight options especially in factory loaded stuff.
