Date my BRNO Model 4

Post by mickyj » 29 Jan 2019, 7:39 pm

Guys,

I have inherited a Brno model 4 with 27.5 “ barrel and thick 45” overall. Serial no 3032x . Can anyone suggest a way to access a way of getting a fix on the date of manufacture?

Cheers

Two digits (year of proofing) should be stamped on the rear of the barrel, and the front of the receiver ring, left hand side. They could be considered to be adjacent to each other. Normally just above the edge of the stock.

49er is right but It could be hidden by the stock. Not too sure about the factory stock options for these but every time I’ve seen pictures of 3’s and 4’s they are wearing fancy benchrest stocks.
From memory the 4’s were a short production run of only about ten years, mid 50’s to mid 60’s
My guess is 1959
Let me know if I win a prize :D

* Model 1: .22 LR, 22.75 in barrel, 3-leaf (tri-leaf) sight, 5 shot lip mag., checkered pistol, 6lbs, mfg. 1946-1957. (many have 2 way
adjustable triggers, but not all. Safety is similar but slightly different to modern ZKM-452's)

** Model 2: similar to model 1, with checkered deluxe walnut stock.

** Model 3: .22 LR, target rifle model with 27.5" heavy barrel, adj click target sights, 5 shot clip mag, plain target style stock with
large swivel mounts, 9.5 lbs. Mfg. 1949-1956 (adjustable triggers)

** Model 4: similar to Model 3, except has improved trigger design & safety. Mfg. 1957-1973

** Model 5: similar to Model 1, except has the improved trigger design & safety. Mfg. 1957-1973
In Europe the firearms are generally proofed at the time of manufacture.Firearms were sometimes re-proofed when coming out of long storage as surplus for resale.

Thinking of buying one that's in very good condition, for 25 to 50 yard targets

Cheers Mick, you wouldn't have thought so when I first bought it (new) it had this god awful dark chocolate brown stain on it and one day for whatever reason (can't remember why now) I decided to sand it back and there you have the end result, I also rubbed heaps of veggie oil into it from memory (can't remember what type) and all manner of other oil into it over the years (I just use whatever I have floating around and that's the end result. :D

She's a ripper little hunting rifle, nice and light and just works, my youngest daughter has already said it's hers and it will be, she loves using it as much as I do, its just the perfect little bunny rifle I reckon. :drinks:

Cheers mate and I hope you get as much pleasure out of yours as I have over the years.

Beautiful brno model 4 target rifle plus Sightron big sky Japanese made 6 to 24 power target scope, both in excellent condition very accurate and competitive, see target provided if i hadn,t pulled the third shot it would have been a 5 shot one hole group as it is the group is still under 1/2 moa at 50 yards.
