Sierra 110gn in 30-06 - anyone tried these?

Post by TassieTiger » 14 Mar 2019, 3:48 pm

I’ve just been given a couple hundred of 110gn projectiles in.30 cal for use in my 06.
Previous owner has actually broken his rifle beyond repair and not replacing with an 06 - so he has given me a few diff left overs...

Personally, I’m not sure I see the point in load testing a projectile this light in an 06....but has anyone walked this road previously? Findings??

Mate , theyre varmint pills arent they,?
Ive tried them as such & they went ok.
Typical sierras, some blew up , some didnt.
Accuracy was fine. The 130gn speer varmints were much better for the purpose.
Expensive & and pointless? Yes , but, if you can tags something small & fluffy at 200mts + with a 30-06 , youll never miss anything else.
And thats how it worked for me, awesome skill building.
If you want to stoke the 06, use the 125gn nosler ballistic tips. They are a proper hunting bullet & are pure evil on pigs

Sure try them. But my understanding is that 110gr bullets often are not very accurate. 130gr apear a lot better. Seem ok in my M70.

If they shoot like s**t use them for off hand practice tin cans lol.

130 through to 200 are usually the go with 30-06.

I've tried the 100gr Sierra hollow points in my 7mm 08. Seemed to worked pretty good. Probably have to use a fair bit of powder in the 30 06. Probably more suited to a 308. But no harm in trying them.

Hahaha - off hand at tin cans? lol...maybe 44 gallon tin cans for my wayward arms and eyes...lol.
I just don't know why I'd use the powder to run them - I can run 45gn of 2209 powder in the 260 with 120gn projectiles and shoot golf balls...
It's just a weird size projectile for the 06 to me.

Aren't the 110gr projectiles more for the 30/30 or 30M1 carbine.?

What about reduced loads using Trail Boss in the 30.06?

A mate has tried 110 gr V Max's in his 300 Win Mags with excellent results - but personally if you want to shoot such a light -weight bullet shoot a 25-06 /270 etc....

For t he '06 - stick with the 150s or 180s............thats the norm in my opinion.
