How many guns can I have

Questions about New South Wales gun and ammunition laws. NSW Firearms Act 1996.

How many guns can I have

Post by Diddums » 19 May 2019, 9:32 am

I'm can't find the answer anywhere else so I'll ask here.

I remember hearing when I first got my license that if you have a Cat A&B license and own more than a certain amount of firearms you needed to have higher security at the premises, like alarms and back to base monitoring.

Can anyone shed some light on it.

Maybe it's the way you view web pages but mine shows OP's profile as being NSW. No need to ask.

If this site is viewed on a mobile it doesn't show state. I found that out the hard way.

Down here in Victoria it's fifteen CatA/B and then you need a very basic alarm system, not monitored, not professionally installed, with an external flashing light and a siren. Once you have the alarm there's no legislated limit on how many CatA/B you can have.

Been looking through the NSW regs and I can't find any mention at all of any requirement for increased security because of a certain number of CatA/B firearms.
I also can't find any restriction on how many CatA/B firearms can be owned.

Thanks.
I've looked through the Firearms act 1996 and there isnt any limit listed, only specifications on requirements for each category.

Oh please accept my sincerest apologies.
Do you think I would have asked if NSW was displayed under his name?

Actually 49er you can go fark yourself. Was only trying to assist someone who asked a question. I even went to the effort to find the appropriate link in my home state just in case the poster was from QLD. Don’t think I will bother in the future.

the answer to the opps question in NSW is easy HOW MANY DO YOU WISH TO OWN at the moment there are no restrictions or conditions on Alarms . I have seen one blokes collection of pump action Firearms close to a 1000 that,s pumps only not counting bolt or levers . ( not mine I wish it was )
Jimtom no state listed for you on a PC either, but its a fair question to ask as we all know the laws are not consistent state to state

Nope, no limit on A/B in NSW as mentioned, a member of my club has 70 and no alarm required, I have 15. Handguns are a different matter I think its somewhere in the vicinity of 15-20 alarm/back to base will be indicated. But don't quote on that last figure.

No limit on handguns for private individuals providing you can demonstrate genuine reason. That 15 limit applies to security companies only :D

If you turn your mobile on its side it then usually shows the location.

No I meant limit before you are required to have beefed up storage (and are asked about your "genuine reason" for that number)

I know because the Secretary of my pistol club was grilled about it because he was keeping all the club guns at home for a period of time.
