Hi all, just joined today, I have been shooting rimfires and other rifles for over 50 years, I am not new to rifles as I have spent many years in the Army and have been hunting since 10 yo and competition shooting on and off the last 5 years. My issue is I cannot locate a decent forum to gather some information, after spending days on google I'm hopeful somebody on this site may have through experience faced the same or similar issues that I'm facing.
I purchased a 1710 DHB with the match 64 single stage trigger (Group 5096) as that is the norm and how they come out of the factory, so I been told by Nioa, at any rate I purchased the rifle as in brand new condition unknowing the seller was full of BS and somebody has mucked about with the trigger in a big way, the trigger weight spring was replaced by one that resembles a Bic Pen spring, to further aggravate the situation the sear engagement 3mm grub screw has been so badly butchered that I had to drill it out and replace it. I found out there was a problem with the rifle at first attempt to sight her in, she would fire upon closure of bolt, moving the safety and even at the tap of the rifle but only intermittently?, yet the trigger felt if anything heavy and not crisp, I had shot many Anschutz's over the years to know what a match trigger should feel like, unfortunately largely this was my fault for taking the sellers word and not dry firing it ( He didn't want me to for fear of damaging the pin, even though I told him that with the 1710 you can do that quite safely without fear of damage, further the action screws looked new and showed no tampering, pitfalls of buying second hand I guess ) so after the first outing at the range I had no option but to pull the action and have a closer look. The sear engagement was the main culprit which is now resolved.
My questions are:
I cannot locate a simple trigger spring anywhere and to order the factory spring will take over 6 months, does anybody have a contact for specifically Trigger Springs in Australia? O/S will not ship any rifle components been down that road already, the normal google hunt resulted in the purchase of about 3 dozen various springs but non are really suitable and the trigger is anything but crisp or light enough without being stupid. Better still does anybody have the part number of any replacement springs that you know work well in the 64 action, I have not seen the need to go to a gunsmith for a spring replacement, easy job and having a Mechanical Engineering background I have and can fix most issues on my rifles, I did ring a couple of the better renowned ones and they both suggested that in this case a replacement spring is the best way to start and move forward.
Overall I am not that happy with the whole trigger, not sure what the new generation 1710's are like out of the box but mine is a definite dog for now, so my second question is can a 2 stage trigger be installed and where to procure that from again without waiting 6 months or having to go OS.
Thanks in anticipation
