Worst 22 mag ever

Post by Blr243 » 10 Sep 2019, 8:03 pm

My old Stirling. If I were to point it up in the air and squeeze the trigger it was not accurate enough to hit the sky. My local gun store told me I could avoid the pta process if I wanted a new 22 mag. So I just took the old Stirling in and in 15 mins was done and dusted NO PTA. so easy ....if I work fast enough tomorrow morning I can knock of early and take the new rifle to the range to test it. I have the marlin 917v stainless in 17hmr for the price i paid for it its a bloody great rifle accurate as all buggery. Only issue i had with it was the magazine rail needed a bit of a tweak as it wouldn't always feed. However nice easy fix.

You can do a lot worse than buying a Marlin. Typically reasonable price, reliable and good accuracy. Just hope it isnt a Remlin.

A bit harsh there, the Stirling is made with pride by the people of the Philipines

I’ve got a love hate relationship with my Stirling 1500 WMR.
Every time I threaten to bin it... she comes good.

Today I took the new marlin 22 mag to the range with good bag rests better scope and several types of ammo. At 25 m I had clover leaf groups from two types of cci All the other Winchester, Remington and whatever was shotgun patterns so at least now I know which type to stay with

I don’t normally phogragh groups. I just range shoot as a process to check for the most accurate ammo. It was real easy to make the decision. All other groups were 4 or 5 times bigger ..... I will leave my thermal scope on my 243. Can’t afford another thermal so I’ll just stick my n v scope on the 22 mag . Sight it in with CCI game points and then I’m set. 25 m groups attached

I have only ever been an average marksman and the 22 mag generally not considered an accurate calibkre so I’m very happy to have found the ammo and am happy with the rifle

The .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire (WMR), often called .22 Mag, was introduced by Winchester in 1959. Soon after the new cartridge rolled out, Ruger, Savage and Smith & Wesson built guns for the new caliber. These included revolvers or bolt-action, pump, single-shot and lever-action rifles.
