Wait time to get your license in Victoria?

Post by TheFirearmEnthusiast » 16 Nov 2019, 2:55 pm

Hi Guys

I hope youse are well

Just a quick question;
- I live in Victoria
- I've applied for my cat A&B firearm license today
(16/11/2019)
- All my papers are 100% in order

I know that it says that it takes a "minimum of 28x days" to get your confirmation that you've been approved

But in real life, how long does it take in general to receive the confirmation that you've been approved?

Thank you so much guys

Of course there is no certainties with the time period but from the experiences other share it would seem to be only 1 week or so after the 28 days. this time of year though with the holiday season you may find it longer.

Give it 7 weeks from now, if you don't get it then ring them... very nicely ask for them to. look into it for you. Maybe it might work

I walked in the police station on the 8th August to hand in my form to apply for my firearms safety course. Did that and lodged all paperwork.
I actually received my plastic licence on the 8th November.
3 months to the day it took

All my paperwork was in order. It just takes that long.

Went straight to the gun shop and ordered a LA101 the day I received the plastic

Now just waiting for the final 28 days to pass.

That is the longest 28 days ever !!

Definitely worth lodging your Permit to Acquire at the same time you lodge the licence application (the 28 days wait on 1st permit starts ticking from when they receive/process it)

Yeah I should have lodged the PTA at the same time but I wasn’t 100% sure they would give me a licence so I erred on the side of caution.

Denno

From the moment where you submitted your application in hard copies to the police though

How long did it take from that moment onwards to receive the answer as to whether or not you have been approved though?

Not Denno, but my timeline was:

Hard copy recieved notice email - 19/07
Application approved email - 30/07

The 28 days starts at the time they recieve the hard copy, not the time they approve the licence

Ah okay Cool
Thanks Raband
So it took you 6x weeks all up
(From the moment where they received the hard copy)

Awesome
I'm probably looking at 6x weeks myself too
Maybe even a bit more since Christmas is so close as well etc

Thanks brother

Quick question: Who did you get to sign your 100pts of ID and to sign the document that comes with the application that says "I ___ certify these documents and that I have known ___ for 12 months"?

Cheers!

Like I answered in the other thread, Someone who is able to certify documents and has known you for 12 months or more. Pretty simple.

Hi there, just got updates from my mate
He logged online applications for AB and H on 31 Dec 2022 and sent paperwork the same day, because of the NYE holidays LRD received hard copies on 3 Jan 2023.
Got e-mails from LRD his applications are approved on 7 March 2023
Just a little bit more than 2 months, looks pretty good.
