Red Dot Sights and Glasses

Post by Macross » 01 Jul 2019, 7:47 am

I have my first pistol on layby at the LGS and waiting on my license to process at WLB. So in the mean time, I'm relegated to theory and dreaming about setting up my new gear.

I purchased a cz shadow 2 optics ready. It has iron sights with the option of getting an adapter plate and collimator down the track. I have read that they can be a good option for people with glasses. I need reading and distance glasses and I do struggle with front sight focus (no transitional lenses yet). Apparently, a red dot can help in that scenario. Is this true? If so, does a larger or smaller MOA dot make a difference?

Anyone had good or bad experiences with particular slide mounted red dots??

Hi mate, I wear prescription glasses with amber coloured lenses. I was asked by a mate to try out his ruger hunter mk3 with red dot scope at 100yds, this was at the Belmont Blackpowder Pistol range, with plenty of witnesses. I was blown away at the ease of picking up the target and the accuracy of the whole set up. I had a ball. The red dot scope was one of those small ones, i dont remember the name or brand of it, but crikey it worked.

Hi
I wear trifocals and find the red dot sight a real benefit.
After a few targets the front sight picture starts to blur , pick up a pistol with a red dot sight for a rest then back to you go, sort of rests the eyes and yes a smaller dot is better .
I have a few with variable dot size @ 50m the center of the target is covered with larger dot make it smaller all ok

I wear multifocals and just put a 3 MOA vortex razor on my shadow 2. I love it already compared to the iron sights.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I picked up a Kahles Helia RD for my wifes pistol on Friday. Had a good run with it at the range over the weekend and absolutely love it. Has made a huge difference and can see the benefits already. Definitely going to get one for my CZ after seeing how good it is. I benched my wifes ruger mark IV target and put 10 shots in a 5c size hole at 7 meters. Wish I could shoot like that freehand :)

I have a Vortex Razor on my CZ Sshadow 2 and yesterday put a Leupold deltapoint pro on my PPQ 5 match (because it came with a suitable optic plate) I think I'm liking the Leupold better already. I was shooting at a 20c sized black dot at 25m and the low intensity 2.5Moa dot on the Leopold had the advantage of not obscuring the black dot I was shooting at. The auto turn on feature is a winner too.
