Decent red dot or similar for 7615

Hey gang,

I've got a 7615 currently with a bushell trs-25 I think, it was just a cheapy I got at the time but I'm now looking for something of a bit more quality. I know it kind of defeats the purpose but is there a red dot or similar with a bit of magnification. I'm not a big fan of proper scopes on this type of rifle as I only use it to 100m or less

If it helps, Aussiehunter91, my wife has a 7615.
We originally had two sight set ups for it, using Leupold QRW rings. For walking the creeks and at the pig trap etc we put on a SigSaeur micro red dot, and for in the paddocks and on the UTV a VX3i, 2.5-8x36. It's what she likes.

I'd experimented with a 1.5-5x MK4 with an illuminated reticle, on my 7600 Police with the 16" barrel. I believe the internals are same as a VX3i, except for the reticle and tac turrets. Which are not required really.
Honestly, on 1.5x this scope kills the red dot. Because on 1.5x I can shoot with both eyes open and have this nuts field of view.
Then on 5x, I can hit a 6" sized circle at 200m+ easy in the field with it repeatedly. Does everything.

The other thing that those who get out and hunt up until, and after dark, will know, is that a dedicated red dot will never ever transmit all that light like a scope can. In other words, quite often I've thought, just what is that (about a dark blob in the grass or under bushes that looks like a pig Maybe?) Till I look through the scope and it's bright as anything, and a bloody black wallaroo male.
A mate from town came out with his 7600 with a very nice Aimpoint micro on it, and one hunt after dark had a low powered Leupold variable on it instead.

But, each to his own, and to his own experiences.

I’ve had red dots on my 7615 and 7600 but found a low powered leupold was a lot better, particularly in low light.

I have an eotech with the flip up x3 magnifier setup on my wfa1. I really like the setup, but it's fairly pricey for a red dot style system. You can get similar setups from most of the other major red dot manufacturers - Aimpoint, Holosun, Burris etc.... The vortex magnifiers are quite competitively priced and there is a wide range of different styles of Vortex red dot's you can pair them with depending on what style of red dot you want.

As the other two posters mentioned though low power variable optics are extremely popular these days, and a lot of people are running them instead of red dot + magnifier setups. A nice true 1-6x power LPVO with a simple and bright illuminated reticle offers quite comparable performance at 1x power to an actual red dot in terms of your speed of target acquisition and field of view, and then you can crank it up to 6x magnification when you need it. You could also consider a 1-4x power, or 1-8x power version depending on how much magnification you want.

If you wanted to take it a step further you could even get an offset mount and run a micro red dot alongside an LPVO and then you'll have the best option for every situation. I plan on running a kahles k16i 1-6x power with an offset vortex razor red dot whenever I can get one of the Wedgetail 308 pumps.

As above I’ve tried aim points and other red dots on my 7615 and 7600 and the best results were from a low powered leupold

I'm in the same boat think I'll have to fork out for another Leupold.
