G96 + Foaming Bore Cleaner by Gun Slick Pro

Post by TheFirearmEnthusiast » 13 Jan 2020, 11:23 am

Hey Lads

I hope that everyone is well :drinks:

It's time that I start thinking about the "cleaning and maintenance" part of being a firearm owner
(exciting)

If you love your firearms, you'd wanna make sure that your firearms are well looked after, that's perfectly normal of course

From what I've heard, people seem to absolutely love these 2x products:
- The G96 (The one that cleans, lubricates and protects)
- The Foaming Bore Cleaner by Gun Slick Pro

These 2x products sound absolutely fantastic

I live in the south east region of Melbourne

I'm wondering if anyone here knows where I could find these products to purchase?
(I've called a couple gun shops, but they didn't have any, hence why I thought it might be easier to start a quick thread and ask you guys)

Thanks Lads :drinks:

Both of these products should effectively remove carbon but I suggest you get a dedicated copper solvent like 7.62 solvent or Boretech.

Your local fun shop should have the products you are looking for.

SCJ429;
Thanks for your advice bro
I'll definitely look into the 7.62 solvent as well as the boretech
:)

So many people that I know talk so highly of the G96 as well as The Foaming Bore Cleaner by Gun Slick Pro

But no one seems to have them in stock....

Maybe those 2x products are only popular in Queensland, don't know

I find the foaming products a pain to use. I much prefer a liquid that I can apply to a patch.

For carbon cleaning I prefer Boretech or Proshot Carbon cleaners.

For copper:
Sweets 7.62 is good but can harm the bore if left too long. Recently bought boretech cu2 (I think thats the name) and it seems just as good with the benefit of no panic leaving it in the bore too long.
For carbon,etc:
Another good cleaner I tried recently is hoppes "elite" bore gel. Better than the original hoppes #9 in effectiveness and for application, only downside is it lacks the scent of God's nectar the original recipie has.
Foaming gunslick spray works good too. It does remove copper fouling with a couple of goes, shows up really blue in the foam once patched out. Just not as convenient for scrubbing and patching.

Mate I tried those foaming bore cleaners but to be honest, I think there are better alternatives out there. That’s just my humble opinion though.
I use Hoppes #9 for carbon etc, and boretech for removing copper. I do use G96 for the outside and sometimes up the barrel.

You need three things to clean a barrel properly.

KG1
KG12
JB bore paste.

Order them online from Sinclair international.

You will also need a light gun oil to coat the barrel.

G’day again TheFirearmEnthusiast, you will find that there are a lot of different ideas and products out there. People will have their favourite solvents and personalised cleaning regimes. Some better than other no doubt.
Do a bit of reading, listen to the old fellas and work out what is best for you.

Cheers mate.

How do you use your JB bore paste to clean your barrel?

There's plenty of ways but just put on inside. Bit of KG1 and then up and down and clean. Check with borescope that the burnt on carbon in the rifling is being removed.

I use some JB paste myself but just to polish up the throat as a preventative for erosion and fire cracking. I don't use it to polish up the rest of the barrel as I am worried about knocking the edges off the rifling. My gunsmith always has heart palepatations when I talk about using it.

Nightforcenxs;
Thanks for the advice man. I’ll look into boretech products as well as sweets 7.62
:)

SCJ429;
Thanks man. I’ll look into Proshot carbon cleaners as well as the KG1, KG12 and JB bore paste
:)

Scoot;
Thanks man, I’ll look into the boretech cu2
If theres no panic for leaving it in for too long, that’s pretty good. Good peace of mind.
I’ll look into the “elite bore gel” as well
:)

JimTom;
Thanks man, I’ll look into the Hoppes #9
I’ve heard a few people talking about how good a job it does
:)

Mchughcb;
Ah yeah, cool ill look into Sinclair international
:)

Strikey;
Ah yeah
Hoppes #9 + sweets 7.62, that does sound like a good combination to get the carbon and copper out
:)

Thanks Lads
You guys have given me plenty to work with
That's awesome
Mind you, it's only for a .22LR
So I dont know how often I'll need to clean it but we'll see how we go
Some people say never
Some peple say twice a year
Some people say once every 500x shots
I'll see how I go!

I don't like using sweets. That ammonia in confined areas has me coughing.

Best to stick with your KG but remember not to lick your fingers.

I always have cuts on my hands and the Sweets 762 stings like hell.

A .22 I may clean the barrel when its new for 1 -2 shoots then leave it alone .
Any centerfire Barrel only cleaning were talking about here.
I clean from Crown to chamber I lay in some foam cleaner ( Hoppes NO 9) I have a tube longer than the barrel that I fit to the Spray nozzel and then leave it to work for 10 min .
Then All from chamber to crown patch it out may take 5 - 6 patches then run the bore scope up and look for any copper If any I will use sweets have another look after more patches if it stubborn i will use a Gunsmiths Brush with sweets but only I pass, patch and have another look .
JB bore paste and polish I will only use on a second hand firearm I have just bought just t make sure its realy clean Its My Personal opinion with JB it is a lapping paste when all said and done..
I did one time try all of the above on a .22 mag that would not clean bought it from a guy in southern NSW I ended up fire lapping that clean
