BOBLOV Trail Camera Review

Post by Oldbloke » 22 Jan 2020, 7:51 pm

Sooo, I have in the past bought a couple of cheapo trail cameras in the past. ($50) I’ve had poor results with just a few decent pics but mostly they failed after a 3 or 4 stints in the bush. And batteries flat after just a couple of weeks. Pic quality was OK/usable but far from great. Night pics were very poor.

I’m not after great pics but I need reliability and have been waiting for about 6 months for the Aldi cameras to come on sale. Everyone gives them a good wrap. They are still not on sale/available so I noticed on another forum a lot of good comments about a year ago about “Boblov” trail cameras and they are still available on fleabay for $88.
I decided I would blow my xmas $ and buy two. (Hey big spender.) LOL

A couple of comments.
The batteries are behind the R/H panel.
If the battery is below 60% it will not take night pics (bummer) But I guess this will extend battery life.
You can’t use re-chargeable batteries. (bummer)
It takes a tif card upto 32gig. I'm using 16gig
The menu has 23 options and very easy to follow and set.
They also come with a wall mount unit. (Ill use that so the camera can act as a security camera if I go away on extended trips)

One is now set up in the back yard for a couple of days testing.

I will report back.

So one of the cameras was out for a few days. Its been very windy so a few of a branch moving. Nothing taken at night. But this was one of the first pics taken. The deer (fallow?) was about 25 yards from the camera. Set on 5mp and then further resized. Movement sensor set on medium.

Im certainly happy with the image quality for the price. Will pick up the other camera later today.

Id guess it vould be something to do with the voltage Roo farmer...
From memory rechargeable's run lower voltage...
Maybe leakage as well...?

Lol. Going home tomorrow morning so not likely.

Yeh, happy with the result. The other camera had images as good. Unfortunately due to wind 200 pics of trees 15 yards away leaves moving. Will reset the sensitivity lower and leave for about 2 or 3 weeks. Seems you need to tweek them abit to get them right. But happy for the money.

At the end of the day it isnt a fasion parade. Just trying to see whats hanging around.

Yeah righto, fair enough.

I have one, not sure if it's the exact model, but definitely the same brand.

I can tell you that if you don't bother to read the user manual, and just put rechargeable batteries in it, it does work.

camera seems pretty good Oldbloke

that photo you put up showing the fallow at the water hole in the pine plantation made me think it would be great if you can explain the hoops that have to be jumped to get permission to enter a pine plantation for those who want to do it :drinks:

The image was taken from the fence line. Not in the plantation. But it does give that impression. Therefore since this is a public forum i am removing it.

I sometomes hunt nearby in SF.

On my fav hunting location there a big open cultivation paddock that mobs walk across every night ....after they cross the main paddock there is a great big irrigation ditch that they have to cross ... but at one part of the big ditch there is pipes and a bridge suitable for vehicular and foot traffic. It’s probably about 8 m wide. I have noticed quite a few pig tacks going across it because it’s tons easier than scrambling across the big ditch in the very loose unstable soil. Set up a cam there on my last trip. So I’m hoping all is well with it and the led light source suitably illuminates the pigs as they walk past. I did not have a hammer with me so the stake is only driven into the ground by hand. So here’s hoping they did not use my stake as a scratching post and when I get back there in six weeks I have some great pics to share ....... six weeks is a bloody long wait ...... I’m expecting different hunting conditions because the creeks are now full , some swampy areas have formed from the creek spillage .....I’m not sure if the new conditions are going to make it easier or harder for me but I love the fact that it will be different and I look forward to quickly learning what I have to do and adapting to it. I’m also looking fwd to some daytime stalking of mobs rooting up the soft moist soil in and around the newly formed swamps I have previously only known the place to be bone dry.

six weeks is more than my cameras will go for using video and picture, l get at most 4-5 weeks
l've had pigs and deer lick my cameras, one camera was a bit damaged from pigs rubbing against it

"The image was taken from the fence line. Not in the plantation."
no worries Oldbloke l'll give you the benefit of doubt but l hope everyone realises that you cannot just walk into a pine forest
it is a worksite and regarded as such
so even if you are not poaching you are trespassing and are not allowed to put up cameras or walk around without an induction and permission
and that goes for pine plantations in state forest, it is leased land and privately owned
if you hunt them without permission you are no different to the @rseholes who spotlight the roads, you are jumping the fence and poaching

Is it just me or does the outside case of camera look much like the ALDI? Photo 509 L/H side looks a bit different up overall...

I bought two of these after reading Oldblokes review. I've only set up one of them so far with a bit of bait and so far I'm very happy with the results. It looks to be at least as good as the $300 Browning Dark Ops I bought a couple years ago.

So after using one of these cameras for barely 6 months, the IR lights stopped working. The unit will still trigger for animals at night but you just get a black image. After contacting the place of purchase for information on warranty repairs, I got the obligatory "send more details and we will make for very happy solution, don't worry". After a few back and forth emails, all went quiet. When I pushed them I got told to send it back to the supplier for warranty. When I asked for postage and contact details to return the unit, I got this gem - "Hi,this item supplier is from china,so it need send back to china repair.best regards"

I'm not done with them yet but the chances of actually getting anything fixed on these units looks slim at best. The second unit I bought has software issues straight out of the box, so overall my experience is not positive at this point. My next trail cam will be a better branded product, regardless of place of manufacture, but the more experiences I have like this, the more I want to keep as far away from chinese products as possible.

if you bought it from china, then you need to return it to china, but if you bought it from an aussie seller, then that is their problem, not yours. Also not a real reason to avoid chinese products, I doubt anyone makes a trail cam anywhere else, whatever the brand.

A bit hard to return it to China when the seller won't even provide an address to return it to. All I got was "send back to China".

I bought the item through Ebay. The item ad said it was located in Sydney, so assumed Aussie seller, but after I had issues I looked at the seller info says "based in China". So my mistake I guess. And yes I know a lot of stuff is difficult/impossible to source from non Chinese manufacturers, but a lot of products still have alternative options. The more times I'm disappointed by or burned by crappy Chinese manufacturing, the more I go looking for better options, preferably Aussie made, so it actually is a real reason to avoid Chinese made, one reason in a long list. I'm by no means boycotting products because they are made in China, but I am noticing a shift over time in what goes in to my purchasing choices.
