Oryx Chassis

Just wondering if anyone has had a chance to use the oryx chassis (specifically with the howa 1500 action).

I am looking into getting one in 223.

Also are there any recommendations at a similar price point or no more than $1500? I would like to do shooting out to 500m max.

Thanks

On a side note, what’s your twist on the 1500?
At what point does lack of maintenance become patina?

Shoot the 69gr SMKs - they’ll get you out to 500m pretty well, measurably better than ye olde 55gr. IMO 500m is about the limit of a 1:9 (without a doctorate in wind reading).

I currently have my 6.5 Creedmoor in a Oryx chassis. For the price I think they are quite good. I also a howa Mini action in the Oryx chassis. So I like them enough to buy two.

They are quite heavy in front. Probably fine for a Bench setup. They are adjustable for length of pull but don’t actually come with the spacers.

I find the Oryx chassis quite comfortable to use.

I have played with the Oryx chassis in both the Howa Short Action and Mini action - a very nice unit indeed.

You must accept that the chassis is heavy - and is best suited to shooting prone, off a bench or from a quad bike / vehicle.

For a walk about sporting rifle their are better options to keep weight down.

The new XRS looks great. If you can stretch your budget to the ESS by MDT it's worth a look.
