More to the point that they might not have even notified the Central disease control in their country.
Really in the west we are pretty laid back about these things as we tend to think it wont happen here and we are well prepared for anything that might happen.
I mean if what you had was Covid-19 then why wasn't any alarm raised? if it was identified as a sister virus to SARS it should have been. Then Australia might have been credited with detecting it first and possibly eradicating it from our shores.
All good mate, yes there is a remote possibility that what you suggest could have happened.
A sister virus to the flu, is a virus that has the same symtoms as the the flu, but is not a true Influenza virus itself. There are 58 known sister viruses to the flu, including a number of corrona viruses.
As to why no alarm was raised, well personaly, I think the whole thing here on the Highlands was a total clusterfuck from the beginning,
For one, at the time, they wouldn't have known what they were looking at under the microscope,
All those who presented at the local hospital, those that it hit the worst, complained about shortness of breath, constriction of the chest, some chest pain when breathing, so the doctors started look at and treating for heat attacks, test for viruses were only done days later when the other tests returned negative, then see above,
When the number of people going to the local doctors, hit a certain number the doctors pretty much stopped testing and started saying "Oh you got Blackwater virus", and that any breathing problems was from the dust from the mines.
I don't believe they reported a cluster of an unknown virus to Q Health, as I sure know that they didn't follow protocol around reporting dust levels that may be causing respiratory problems.
