Side by Side sling

Post by CAVEMAN » 22 May 2020, 7:45 pm

Evening all

Does anyone have any experience with slings on SxS shotguns. Recently picked myself up a nice little coach gun and was looking for a sling for it. Currently has no swivels or similar on it.

I'm wondering if putting a set of sling swivels on the detachable fore grip and but is a good choice. Or i've also found slings that just wrap around the barrel and the pistol grip.

Got the same problem. I've got a slip on sling too but not all that impressed and to make matters worse, the stock & forend are the Kmartish Plastarartas style, so reluctant to go drilling. I also find the sling over the barrel interferes with sighting and down the barrel view and around the hand grip, it just gets in the way most of the time. But other than that it's OK.

Does a coach gun weigh close enough to bugger all that you could just carry it? Or attach a couple of studs

First picture is fail. Can’t see the bead.
Second picture, nope i ain’t drilling that forend there to support it’s weight.
You could probably sort a single point sling around the buttstock if you really need it. That would allow you both hands free when needed.
If you’re hiking I’d probably just get a cheap scabbard from eBay.

If you’re kinda walking and scouting I’d strictly be doing so with the action open on those things.

Yea Womble, Good point re action opened but I just need both hands free. I hunt feral dogs and sometimes in the thick stuff so the shottie comes in handy and a sling would be really handy.

You used to be able to get sling swivels that clamp on barrels. But unsure about Side by Sides. Can for singles.

I made a mock up of the barrel sling and it was not a good idea, I'm thinking the best option will see a smith and get a sling ring welded to the barrel.

Thanks for everyone's input, some good info here.

You could get it drilled and tapped between the barrels
Then mount a picatinny rail
You can attach sling swivel to the rail and have room for a torch

Picatiny on walnut (cough Turkish walnut cough) and blued steel always feels like a sin to me. Might look into just doing it for a straight up swivel though.

You can get studs to attach to the ribs between the barrel

Yes lovely Turkish pine stock.
I meant the rib between the barrels as bigpete said.
Yes a sling stud could be attached there, drilled and tapped. Easy gunsmith job. Not a job for dads cordless ryobi.
And no welding. That would be a fail and we would have to bring out the 8 inch grinder.
