Cz 22lr magazine not fitting in cz 455, can a gunsmith fix?

Post by bcr83 » 24 May 2020, 7:27 am

Hi all,

Need some advice on cz 22lr magazine fitment.

I have a cz 455 and I just ordered a cz515 tac which is due in August.

I ordered an aftermarket cz 22lr mag from Australian dealer, he tested it in store , it's a steel 15rd. The dealer told me he tested it in a cz457 in the shop and fitted and fed perfectly.

The 455,457 and 515 (512 semi) are supposedly all interchangeable but it does not "click in" my cz455.

Can I get this modified by a gunsmith somewhere? Doesn't look like it needs too much done but I have attached a video for anyone that can me some advice that would.be appreciated.

I would just look closely at both and see what is different.
Or return for a replacement

Read about mag troubles a lot with CZ’s - I’ve got my own issues between oem and aftermarket . You can be taking about .5mm difference and one will fit and one will not.
I’d Chalk up the catch area to ascertain where and by how much it’s not seating - if it’s a little, a light file will prob resolve - but as soon as you do this, chances of return are gone - so I’d chalk it / mark it and see how far out it is first up. Maybe record the results in case you do end up returning...

Thanks guys good advice for chalking up. Pretty much as soon as I take a file to it it's going to be a paper weight....

Checking in with a few Smith's to see if they're keen anyway....

Don’t reckon a smith will touch it for under $1-200 and if they are any good, would be waiting a while, best to return it in that case.

Return it for refund or exchange. If the dealer said it would fit, then it should. Otherwise it is "not fit for use" under retail law.

Thanks all. Dealer has been fine they apparently tested in a 455 they had in stock and it was good, they have offered to refund.

Yep, 100 bucks minimum I would imagine so definitely not worth it.

Cheers

Third and fourth paragraph in OP. Then read what Wylie27 had to say about altering the front mag lug. I made that alteration slowly-slowly, and the CZ mag now "clicks" into place positively, even with the bolt closed.
At what point does lack of maintenance become patina?

Are you able to share what the mag body looks like? Is it the same as the 15 round ? My one won't even slot in with the bolt open.

Edit: I've gone through all the posts and I've worked out what needs to do. I guess the only question is the shoulder of the mag body looks different than the 10rd, it also doesn't go in with the bolt open either. Did yours go in with the bolt open??

Some pressure saw the original CZ magazine go in with the bolt open.

Thanks heaps mate for posting this, looks like my 15rd is thinner but uses the shoulder area to fill the mag well. Might take a file to it and see...

Welcome bud. At the risk of stating the obvious, if you're taking material off the top, then you don't want to also be taking it from underneath? One axis at a time, and go real iteratively, testing constantly.

Ironically, despite what I imagined, I hardly use my 10 shot. The Single Shot Adapter from Brownells saw the most use (back when I was regularly shooting RMS). Besides that, the flush factory mag is more comfortable and practical out in the paddocks. Jutting-out mags are annoying for hunting.
