Mate I run ADI brass with predominantly AR2208. I have also had great results with AR2206H and even BM8208.

I load Nosler BTip and Hornady SST, both in 165 grain
Also Nosler Custom Comp in 168 grain
All shoot great over 44.8gr of AR2208
Fed LR Primer
Winchester brass for hunting
and Lapua Brass for paper punching

Cheers

PS That load is safe in my gun :)

Thanks for the info. 2208 seems to be popular and it’s what I use in my 243 as well .....I never thought I would ever buy Lapua brass as it’s just unnecessary and a pump may flick it too far in the field to be found again but for some reason at the moment I’m looking at it

Lapua 168 per hund. Ppu 50 per hundred So knowing I’m going to loose some the ppu wins the deal as I like that brass anyway .....in the 180 projectiles I want something bc efficiency so I’ll pay for the LOW DRAG 178 eld X bit in the 150 I’ll just grab any random old style soft point or a pack of sst.

Just be aware, I was told all PPU brass on back order across all calibers and no ETA.
I’ve been waiting for some 300 ppu for 5 months.

Mate I used those 178ELD X out of my 308 with unbelievable accuracy (3 shots 0.34” @ 100m). I rate them highly.

For hunting - any brass. Speer bullets. Keep it cheap. Soft, flat nose for pigs+. Would yu believe I'm shooting the Speer 125gr TNT over a 4/5 case of AR2207. A bit hard on the throat, but meh, I hardly shoot the 308 these days anyway.

Speer 125gr tnt using AR2207 Very accurate out of my tikka.
And for a heavier projectile Hornady 150gr interlock using AR2206h.
Use what ever brass you have most of or what ever cheapest. And work up a load with that.

My rifle seems to like 165gr plus sized pills. Have shot 130gr out of it with reasonable success however it really shoots with the 168gr Zmax and the 178gr ELDX.

My understanding is most 308 cal perform best with 130gr and over. 150 to 180 best, as a general rule.
Just a rule of thumb.

Thanks again. With this info I can start getting on top of good results early ....I can’t see myself getting amongst the pigs until at least October but it would be nice to get a dog or red deer with my new rifle on its first outing

I started out on 2206H using 165gr v-max and a mixture of brass and got good results. Switched to 2208 and the same brand of brass (PPU & ADI mostly) within each 5 shot group and now they all go through the same ragged hole at 100m.

I find that in general a consistent reloading process matters more than which brand of brass you're using (although that's what you're paying for with expensive brass - consistency between cases)

Cflake. In 308, I thought the heaviest vmax was 110 grains.? U have mentioned one that weighs 165?

Yeah definitely. Neck tension is king. That and trying to get as close to the lands as practical. Those two variables alone go a helluva long way,

Blr

Just out of interest, what rifle are you using for the 308?

I think you may be following a similar path to myself. Died in the wool 243 bloke and then starting out on a 308 and 223 journey.

Col , today I picked up my new Remington 7600 pump in 308 ...I shot oodles of pigs cats and foxes with my nice triggered accurate flat shooting 243 ....I have lots of confidence with that outfit ...everything I point it at falls over every time ....but I wanted something a bit faster for follow up shots, and something to drop big pigs at angles other than my usual ( wait for a broadside shot), and I think I’ll be shooting a few red deer on my upcoming dingo hunts and like most blokes I probably wanted a new toy too. After useing a beautiful sauer trigger on my 243 , the trigger on the pump is going to take some getting used to

I use lapua brass, as I did a lot of f class shooting and have bucket loads of lapua brass.
I've found it holds up well after many reloads and has very little variances in case capacity compared to other brands.

I use 2208, as it gives me best accuracy 'as well as' best speeds available.
I use this brass/powder combo with my three loads.
F-class = 155gr bullets
big game = 150gr bullets
small game = 125gr bullets.
all of my loads will shoot well under 1/2moa easily and reliably.
Not saying its the best, but rather what works well for me.

when i was loading for 308, ar2208 was the powder for a sako a7 i had . i got best accuracy with 165gn speer soft points, my rifle didn't like 150 gn projectiles at all :wtf: as a hunting rifle i thought the speers would do the job :)
what made a difference to group size was switching primers from fed 210's to 210m primers. i had to come back on the powder charge by half a grain, but groups went from 3/4" to one ragged hole at 100 . can't remember what brand the brass was, ADI i think :unknown:

Good points men, I’m pretty sure my large rifle primers stock is getting low so prob a good time to try different ... iv never bothered to include primer variety in my load development but the difference u mentioned is quite significant ....was seating some 15o speers yesterday and I got offset very crooked crushed cases so I stopped after three. Bloody flat base bullets It was fresh bought s and b brass maybe it’s slightly different...I had no drama with the eld hornady boat tail bullets. One of my seating dies has a floating collar thingy inside it that helps align bullets for nicer seating I think it’s my 303 hornady from memory ..... but my 308 set is very basic. I’m strongly thinking of only buying boat tails from now on. Dearer , but easy seating and more often better BC

The speer 165’s I mentioned were boat tails blr, probably overkill on anything less than large deer or boar. But accurate and cheap. I think I was using around 45 to 45.5 gn 2208 with the 210M primers . Don’t quote me on that but. And in reference to your other post, I don’t like s&b brass . A mate has had a good run with 7x57R in seller but
