New Stage 3 restrictions for Chinese virus prevention.

G'day All - in Victoria,

Has anyone looked at the Stage 3 restrictions that Comrade Dan has just announced for Regional areas, specifically:

*"The only reason people will be able to leave home is for shopping for food and essentials, care and caregiving, work and study, and daily exercise."

Unlike Melbourne where there is a maximum radius of 5kms allowed on a trip out to the shops for instance, there is no distance stated for the Regions.

Are we, in the country, going to be banned from [solo] hunting again?

If everything needs to be shut down, then so be it. I'm in no hurry to find myself pushing up daisies being over 70.

I read through them and yes it looks like shooting ranges are going to b closed. It actually read like golf club driving ranges were to be closed but the word Hunting and shooting were also used. Seems all community sport to be closed down again.

Jim, your over 70. Better to just die for those that would like to keep the economy going. And go hunting or fishing. Take one for the team mate. Its just a bit of bad luck, well for you it is. But don't worry, life will be normal again for most.

l'm pretty sure that you can still volunteer to shoot pest animals for farmers as well as shooting your own pests Jim

G'day Marksman,

I'm sure you're correct about continuing shooting pests. Anyway I used The Age's interactive virus map this morning to determine the 5 km radius around my place and it includes most of the properties and some state forest on which I shoot - if a 5 km radius is good for the city folk, then it's good enough for me.

The main problem, besides certain sarcastic beggars suggesting I'm too old, is the lack of foxes. I haven't seen one for days on my place and the dead chicken tied to the fence still hasn't been touched. It must be emitting a pong that a fox could smell from miles away, but there has been no interest.

I think your right MM.
Seen nothing to indicate its changed.

NTSOG, Apologize for the sarcasm but Ive seen a few comments suggesting its ok for the older members of society to be sacrificed to get the economy going, and life back to "normal".

The Dept of Health and Human Services and Dept of Ag confirm that hunting and pest control is ok if you are not in Greater Melbourne.

Does that mean there are no vermin - of any kind - in Greater Melbourne?

Cripes straightshooter, thank God I studied C20 European history.

"Dekulakization"? - 'Joseph Stalin instigated a dekulakization campaign, where kulaks, comparatively wealthy peasants, were arrested, shot, exiled, or packed into work camps.'

The question is, in Comrade Dan's People's Paradise, who are the Kulaks?

As an aside I went to one of the local gun shops today and stocked up on .22LR and .222 Rem ammunition in case Comrade Dan decides we shooters are evil wife-bashers again. I did ask if the gun shop was an 'essential service'; they didn't know, but will be staying open until ordered to shut.

I shouldn’t laugh but what else do you do / I read what OB posted whilst listening to some pollie wanker on TV saying about 5klm restriction in melb and in my mind I cross referenced - so you can go hunting, but must be within 5klms of your home, so in melb - for some, that’s going to be one hell of a shot lol.

G'day Marksman,

Yep we got the snow. It wasn't very heavy and now [Friday] we are likely to get heavy rain. I went out the last couple of nights, but only saw a couple of hares, some 'roos and not a fox to be seen. My dead chook tied to the fence is still untouched!

G'day Oldbloke, I have used cheap canned dog food with some success, but I am amazed that the chook is still there. I've just been out the back having a scan in case there was some activity before the rain came, but there's nothing there. Not even 'roos at the moment. Now it's raining and that's it for the night I reckon.

G'day TT,

We heard that you folks in the southern offshore penal colony had the coldest temperature ever. The worst I have experienced where I am, south of Ballarat, was -8C some 20 years ago, but that pales into insignificance with a day when I and my wife went cross country skiing in Wisconsin [USA] in 1980: the wind-chill was - 64F/-53C, but I cannot remember the actually temperature. All I know is that it took 5 miles of hard skiing before I could feel my feet.

Marksman, as for being out and about at 11:00 PM some of us old types need our beauty sleep.

Jim

PS. Marksman I have just been out back - 7:45 AM - to feed the cows and did a 'chook check'. Staying up all night wouldn't have helped me 'score' a fox: the chook is still intact. Nothing has nibbled at it at all yet it lies on a fence-line along which the blighters travel most of the time.
