Walther LGU master air - experiences?

Post by TassieTiger » 11 Sep 2020, 7:48 pm

Handled a Walther LGU air rifle today and was surprised by the huge weight - with scope, this thing must be 5.5kgs...
However - the current owner proved to me 1/4” groups at 30m are possible and I’m tempted big time. It’s an underlever - so no compressed air and the barrel is fixed unlike usual springers. There is no “bounce” from these things either...much nicer to shoot than my previous airs...
Anyone had anything to do with these Walthers? I thought they were uk made - But they are German.
It’s a nice bit of kit and very well made - Asking price is (from my research), very very reasonable - especially with the extras.
Anyone played with one?

I bought one a few months ago, fitted a big 6-24x56 Walther scope and a palm rest that I made myself, it is heavy but it's very smooth and consistent and can be accurate if you hold it gently. Spring air rifles don't respond well to a firm grip.

PCP rifles are more accurate with less recoil but you have no limit on the number of shots when you're out with an under lever and power is plenty for very good accuracy out to 50m. It would be suitable for small game/vermin hunting or field target competitions.

Surprisingly quiet too as long as the pellet is heavy enough to stay sub-sonic, alloy pellets might have a loud muzzle 'crack'. The weight would get tiring on a long trek but the build quality and feel is excellent. There are a few worthwhile YouTube video reviews of it

Cheers - I’ve been looking at those you tube clips and I think I’m convinced. I was lining up a hk but this is So nicely put Together...so quiet...no bounce...accurate...yeah - it’s everything I want in an air. I’ll make an offer.

I have one in .177, its fun for practicing off hand, I like how its big and heavy. The ambidextrous monte carlo stock with the high comb suits me, since I'm just as useless shooting left hand as right hand, I practice both. I have a SWFA 16x42 SS scope on it, mil reticle with mil turrets, which helps with me trying to learn. I try to shoot these little paper chickens with it at 20m (or 25m to add to the challenge), but they keep moving around in the scope, their really hard to hit.

I shot a large black rat with it, only about 8m away, I thought I must have missed since it walked off, but it only made it slightly over a metre. This was with a cheap H&N Excite Hammer pelllet, For the paper chickens I use the cheapest pellets I could find, H&N Excite Econ, they still make it to 25m. The power specification is 23 Joules in .177. Weight is supposed to be 4.3kg bare.

^ so they are rated as a 1000fps air gun, I’d hope the rat was from krypton if you did in fact hit him.

They certainly can shoot - this was 25m and is 7 shots.
