Choice of .22

Hi, New Shooter here so sorry if I'm not quite correct with my questions. My dad is in the process of handing down his rifle collection and I have a choice of 2 of the following .22's ;
Stirling 11S - 5 shot mag
Stirling 14P - 10 shot mag
Norinco J.W. 15 - 5 shot mag

I was leaning towards the 14P and the Norinco(has a small sentimental value)

Would also appreciate any info on a price guide for the following rifles;
.303 Lithgow Model-SMLE III 1941
.22 Winchester Model-02

Thankyou

Hi Yozter
I owned a JW-15 years ago.
I put a 4 power scope on it.
It was a cheap and fairly accurate rifle.
Bagged me a few bunnies in its time. :thumbsup:

The lithgows are collectible I’d be thinking at least $1500 to start (if it’s in good nick). Then slowly drop to eventually move it. Hold on to it if you can.
At what point does lack of maintenance become patina?

The Sterling is at the budget end and would only have sentimental value.

I had a Stirling 14P as a kid. Got it for Xmas from my parents many years ago as my first rifle. Put a cheap Tasco 4x32 on it and it was the absolute best present ever at the time.
It’s still around and in my Dads name now, he uses it around the farm.
It was cheap, it’s been neglected like you wouldn’t believe, but it still shoots and functions well.
Nothing special about it at all, apart from some sentimental value on my behalf, but as a working farm gun it has stood up really well.

If you rule sentimentality out of it the decision is simply which ones group best. Take them out with a variety of ammo brands and shoot some 5 shot groups at 50m. Keep the best two.

The Stirling 14P may be plain looking but they are reliable and very accurate. Mine doesn’t seem to care about its Ammo. Had mine for 30 plus years.
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

I think you are going a bit far there calling them very accurate. The best ones are adequate for hunting and are best described as rough and ready.

I second the Lithgow. Have one and love it.
