LPG Cooker wind shield ideas

Post by Oldbloke » 08 Sep 2021, 8:22 am

I'm just looking for ideas.
Pictured below is the LPG cooker I like to take for a couple of days camping. Cheap, easy, compact not heavy.
Problem is wind often causes issues.

Any ideas on a cheap, compact & portable wind shield? There must be a simple solution out there.

Maybe something like this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32949441459.html , or fabricate something similar to suite the size you need

I'm currently trying to make one for coleman 533 that stores on the bottom of it, and slips over the top. Not sure I'm real happy with it yet.

I guess you wouldn't want one that goes all the way from the base of the cylinder as it would end up massive.

I'll have more of a play with mine and if it works alright I'll throw up a photo. Just made out of cans

Na, way too big.

Just trying/fiddling with a cardboard pattern now. Will screw to the top of the bottle. Only really needs to shield about 180 degrees I think

Yeah, I figure having an opening on the down wind side wouldn't hurt

So one is the pattern. (A4 cardboard) The other pattern taped in position. Just a bit of tweeking I think. If I give it a hinge, even better.

You don't put fry pans on there?

I just played further with my idea but it seems to be a fizzer so far. Without the little cut outs the heat almost blows itself out when the temp is turned up, but not perfect even with them in there. And blowing on it with this on there makes it worse than when it isn't there.

I'm going to have to go to something more like what you have, sits outside the diameter of the fry pan. I'm thinking an opening on one side for plenty of air flow. I just wanted to keep it compact and easy to store with the stove

So,, job done. Hinges are just bent wire. Looks ok. Had to tweek it a bit to get it to fit neat.
Pot or billy will fit ok but my small fry pan will need to be held. Beats going hungry. Lol
Left hand fry pan, right hand beer. Lol

Sheesh, helps if I add the pics. :unknown:

Looks good. I might pinch your hinge idea and make mine from ground up to pan height for the little coleman stove, then be able to fold flat to store in my cooking tub
