Accuracy of rimfire rifles with interchangeable barrels

Hi everyone,

I want to get a rimfire rifle and would like both a 22LR and a 17HMR for shorter shoots at the range than hunting.

Cant afford 2 rifles at the moment so looking at interchangeable barrels options.

For it to be easily interchangeable it seems like there would be some more movement or flex in something like the Sako quad or CZ 455 or any of the other options over a proper fixed barrel.

How do the accuracy of these go? Do they really shoot just as well as a fixed calibre and barrel rifle? Or do you have to accept a little loss because of the convenience.

I have a cz455 and have given up changing barrels. I mean the gun shoots fine with either barrel it's just a pain to re sight in after every change. It is close when you do change barrels but not good enough.

My friend owns a sako quad and I have only sighted it in once for him when he got it and he has not changed it at all. He changes barrels frequently as he either takes his kids rabbit shooting (.22lr) or goes fox shooting (.17HMR). When I sighted it in I used the .22 first at 50 yards then changed barrels to see where it was shooting. When ever he changes the barrel from .22lr - .17HMR he takes his scope 24 clicks north. When he changes the barrel from .17HMR - .22lr he takes his scope 24 clicks south. No changes to this since 2011. From my experience seeing these interchangeable barrels, they shoot just as accurate as any other rimfire. Good luck with it.

2" high with one barrel then 2" low with the other or whatever so you can record and repeat the clicks?

Or is it wherever and you have to sight in pretty much all over?

Bushnell do an interchangeable barrel scope for rimfire dont they?

From memory it has 4 presets and colours so you can quickly dial in for each calibre and easily remember which is which.

Burris do one for the Sako Quad. Nothing similar from Bushnell AFAIK.

I did take note of the numbers on the scope after changing barrels, I would put it straight to where it suppose to be and found it was only 2 or 3 clicks out.

But in saying that I have read a lot more about how to do. Some have said use a small tension wrench to get the same pressure on the screws each time and that will make it spot on every time.

For me I'm just going to buy a .17 and that way if I see a fox or something a bit further out I put the 22 down, grab the 17 and bang, I miss (I can't shoot for crap)

Fussing around with the wrench probably just as annoying as adjusting those 2-3 shots you need to zero again

Yeah, it's sounding like more of a pain than I was hoping for.

I don't think I'll go with one.

Some are more of a pain than others too...

I can't remember which is which, but one of the brands the barrel isn't removed by pulling it straight forward, you have to tilt it up and then out so you can't do it with the scope on!

Have to remount and sight the scope with every change.

It's the Sako Quad that lifts up and out.

CZ is straight forward though I'm pretty sure.

Blaser switch barrel centrefire rifles get around this problem by attaching the scope to the barrel not the action, the scope stays with the barrel, I think if they made a similar type rimfire rifle it would be good.

Good idea I guess, except you have to buy 2 scopes?

That's gunna be expensive...
