Scoring overlays

Post by bladeracer » 13 Feb 2022, 1:54 pm

I want to be able to more precisely measure my bullet holes.
I've seen the plugs that you drop into the hole but I'd rather the transparent plastic type that I can keep in my wallet so it can't be forgotten (I forgot to grab a magazine the other day when I went out).
Can't find any in Oz though. Found a place in Italy that ships internationally, but they want $80 to post a $3 3"-square sheet of plastic.
Anybody seen these locally?

It might pay to email a few printing shops, someone would be able to print them on whatever material you want.

G'day blade.
You'll probably be aware that after inserting a plug gauge into a hole, that that shot can NEVER be retested. Non-invasive is best.
Got mine from here https://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_dmd=2&i ... 3994739016
I prefer the 'Eagle Eye Magnified Scoring Gauge'. Got three - 17 & 22, 32 & 38, 38 & 45.
They also do ISSF overlay slides as well.
Not too bad on the pricing, either.

Edit - storage for.
And for safe storage (no scratching of the Perspex), I keep them in Holman Industries White tubing, 38mm ID / 42mm OD with PVC32 (32mm) end caps. They fit perfectly.

Yep, but I have no interest in scoring :-)
I need to measure the centre of the group as precisely as possible. This would allow me to measure from the edges of the page (a handy datum to hook the caliper on) to the hole, to within .001". Then I can average them to find how far the group centre is from the edge of the page. From that I can measure the offset from the point of aim.

Oddly, I saw him on Ebay but only with the plug scorers, not the overlays, and at $40 with postage I ignored him. Two overlays en route now though - thanks for that :-)

Yep, too bulky to carry all the time. I want something I don't have to remember to grab when I head out for some shooting, something that simply lives in my wallet.

Just transparent plastic, with a .223" circle on it, but it's a good idea.

Trigger Imports have a similar overlay, though it really is designed for pistol shooters I think. However may be suitable

Thanks for that. Would've been nice to order locally, but Canada should only be a week or two.
I'll have a browse of the site too as I don't think I've heard of them before.
