Got my new to me forge cranking with the help of my apprentice and made a couple of what are meant to be tanged arrowheads. Great fun ! Now I need a proper anvil and some tongs ! :)

Good news
How's the prices and demand going?

$1/Kg for greys and $1.20 for reds.I was impressed with how it is all set up. All I have to do now is go and do it however we are in the middle of installing soak wells in a carpark and I can not justify leaving equipment on hire to do some shooting. Soon hopefully now it has cooled down and the nights are longer. I have 100 tags it would be good to do them this year

I replaced the stock brake light/rear fender on my KLX 250 with an aftermarket set up. Fiddly job, but it looks so much better.

Designing rear winch mount, racks and boxes for my new quad bike , and a small trailer to tow behind it Too....Can’t do much fabrication because scared of council complaints on a Sunday , and because this rain just won’t go away , and major components ordered are still in transit , or about to be manufactured, and people getting covid and isolating it’s all messing with our schedules .....I’m so over this rain and it looks like another week at least more of the same

A short length of railway iron makes a great little anvil.

I'm not a hunter, but I enjoy backpacking and fishing. I have an irrational fear of bears, so waking up to bear tracks around my camp was unsettling, and I didn't spend much more time in the area after that.

I've also had an unsettling encounter with an overly friendly deer. I was in a remote area, so I found it strange to see a deer that was so calm around humans. This deer would not leave me alone, walking around my camp all day and returning at night to scare the s**t out of me by laying down outside my tent.

I think it’s really cool when an wild animal does that / as long as it’s not aggressive, like the centipede that crawled into bed with me one night

Saw about 20 or 30 goats today. Got easily within 30 yards. POP

Problem was no rifle, it was a National Park in NSW.
Bloody heaps of pig sign to. Just unbelievable.

National Parks are a disgrace in this country, if it isn't ferals taking over its weeds.

Met a couple of parks guys trying to trap pigs. Also very disenchanted. Not allowed to shoot the ferals that were at that time looking at us about 60 yards away.

The big problem with "old" railway iron is that the working surface is generally crystallized (metalurgically speaking) and
would have a chance of the end fracturing and dropping off.

Then your 14" would suddenly become only 3" (But with old age you'd probly forget that it used to be bigger)

Finally got round to working out how to make cases for my 1891 Dutch East Indies revolver, looks like cut down 30/30 are the go, still need to fire form. Projectile next, 0.380" diameter at about 180g, possibly need to be heeled. Might contact CBE to see if they have dealt with such a design before. Have finalized the cases and load for the 1873 Gasser as well, so range day to come for that.

Installing my new Dednutz mount on my M70. The rear bridge of the action needed bedding, which took yesterday afternoon. It's getting cold here nowadays and the epoxy had to be left overnight. By this morning it had set as hard as a rock, though.Took a bit of force to remove the mount too. Some of the epoxy was squeezed out from under mount yesterday and I spent time wiping it away from both the action and mount. Don't know if that contributed to the difficulty separating the parts this A.M. After trimming, the ring alignment tools were installed for an exceedingly good result. I was tempted to leave things as they were but the gap was very slightly smaller at the top, than the bottom of the alloy rods. So I rotated the rear ring 180 degrees and the gap is now even all round.

That will do me but how did I know what to do with the rings.....
I didn't. It was a guess and the easiest thing to do at the time :D

A 5km bush walk in the rain this arvo, with the chainsaw to clear all the over-hanging branches blocking the tracks we're moving the cattle through in the morning. Lovely to thaw out in front of the fire afterwards :-)

I need to do some load development, and I want to limit the effect of my eyesight from the testing as much as I can.
I'm not convinced it'll stay in place once I start shooting so I'll run a few mags of 150gn loads through it first and see if it retains zero.

Another 4500m walk this morning in the rain and mud, and looks like tomorrow we're going bush to inspect the electric deer fence again.
