So,I've Bought a 58....

As the title suggests,I've bought a 58 cal ! Its a cva big bore mountain rifle thats been refurbished with a curly maple stock, new sights, and a more ornate patch box. Should be here next Tuesday. Has a 1 in 66 twist barrel suited to shooting round ball, which is what I wanted to do anyway,so that works out well. I'll upload some photos when it arrives. Let the fun begin !

Sounds like a nice rifle, the only modern, shootable, 58 I have is a Zoli Zouve which I really like. 1:66 twist in the Zouve and I shoot Minie so only light 450g to 500g with up to 80g of powder. For PRB I have used up to 180g of 2F, fairly exciting, but no gain over the 150g load. Look forward to seeing som pics of your rifle when you get it, Cheers.

Some of those 58 CVA Mountain Rifles had douglas barrels.
Does the Barrel have made in USA on it?

Fellas that only use them fancy shootin irons with those new fangled lookin glass sights never get to have this much fun!
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

That is a peach. Adjustable buckhorns, fabulous timber, set triggers. Should be a cracker.

Its as light as a CVA Mountain rifle gets but still heavy.
If you want a carry gun get a canoe gun or a Musketoon.
The Mountain Men had horses

Big Bore Mountain Rifle:
Note: identical to the Mountain Rifle specifications above with the following exceptions:
Stock: unadorned wider select hardwood with fully-formed beavertail cheekpiece
Barrel: 1" across the flats and .58 caliber is rifled one turn in 72"
Weight: 8 lbs., 2 oz.
PR407: .54 caliber percussion rifle $294.95
KA729: .54 caliber percussion kit $209.95
KA730: .58 caliber percussion kit $209.95
One well placed shot is all it takes.
