I found this old Web site.
A fair bit of info relating to BP by a chemical engineer. Looks like he has since passed away.

Thanks for sharing that OB, there's some great information in there that I haven't seen anywhere else.

I wonder how many hoops you'd have to jump through to be able to legally produce, package and sell BP ?

There was a small fireworks maker just out of Adelaide some years back, I'd been my boots he would've been making BP from scratch for his pyrotechnics.

I don't recall their name. But pretty sure they had a major incident about 15 years ago with at least 2 deaths. I did have a fair bit of info about what happened. Sounds like the business didn't survive the disaster either.

The incident did result in a significant increase in Worksafe S.A. Dangerous Goods department.

The technical term is "sh1t loads".
The industry is heavily regulated, but very profitable.

The explosion your thinking of was an explosives manufacturer at Gladstone, the fireworks maker was a different place, he ran it from a couple of shipping containers in a bunker and a small shed if I remember correctly., I think it was out near Two Wells.

Out of interest I'm going to have a read of my state's requirements, I'll bet I'd need a paddock with a bunker in the middle... doubt a back yard shed would meet the requirements
It'll be interesting to see if there's a sliding scale of requirements based on quantities.

Edit: so far I'm up to page 30 of the Regulations, and I'm glad as a reloaders who fill small arm cartridges for private use, we're pursuant to the section 8 of the Act. (Wipes sweat from brow)

The act is only 30 pages long which is about a ⅓ of thr size of thr firearms act, the Regulations are 114 pages which is about the same. They read pretty well.
Having worked in high risk / dangerous industry for decades, so far it all looks pretty straight forward.

If anyone has a lazy million $ or three burning a hole in their pocket .... let's get it started

"Gladstone", that sounds familiar.

You will need to read a couple of ANZS Standards as well.

There are quantity restrictions in each manufacturing building and magazine, also for the complete site. Once you go over the site limit you need a licence for a MHF. But that's very , very large quantities.

Devil is in t h e detail.
