This response is to be expected
He’s talking about tweaking the national firearms database- which if my experience transferring reg from interstate is anything to go by needs an overhaul

Perhaps?

"comprehensive look at weapon licensing protocols"

1. We license people to use firearms.
2. They are not weapons until they are used against people.
3 We register firearms.

They can start by removing "weapons" from describing the things we all use as tools for sport, recreation and work...

Absolutely nailed it Oldbloke. They are firearms and only become weapons when used the manner that the term weapon suggests.
I knew there would be some kind of backlash from the latest tragedy. Understandable I guess.
To be honest I have absolutely no issues with firearms being registered and hopefully kept out of the hands of those that would use them as weapons. The turds give us law abiding firearm owners a bad rap.
Unfortunately I think we will see the day where by it will become untenable to own a firearm for sporting and feral pest control unless one is a professional.

'It is still unknown how the shooters got the "considerable weaponry" they had when they carried out the ambush attack'

Nothing stated formally yet but that does sound like a stash of illegal firearms, something that criminals are known to do and no law changes impacting licensed shooters are going to change that. Still, no anti-gun group will ever let a tragedy go to waste if they can use it to push their agenda.

Sending four officers to the property for a 'missing persons' check does suggest that they either had intelligence that there could be a violent response or that firearms were stored on the property.

7 News:

"Investigators will also examine how the brothers were able to stockpile a cache of lethal weapons, including high-powered firearms, knives and axes."
also "The weapons had been legally obtained but were registered in NSW"

The investigations into acquiring knives and axes hopefully won't take too long, even I could tell them how to get as many as the local supermarkets or Bunnings have in stock.
Looks like more NSW licensing screw ups allowing unsuitable people to have access to firearms, they got a lot of grief about other mistakes and took that out on licensed shooters too.

Hopefully QLD politicians will realise that no changes to licensing here could have prevented this tragedy but it won't matter if they can get their names in the media for taking action to stop gun crime.

Yes, and cops are not Happy they had a security system that they used for surveillance. Lol.
A police requirement in Vic if you have more than 15 firearms.

Lots of anti stuff about. So looks like gun laws will be tightened. I have no issue with sensible, rational gun laws. 70% are ok. Some are out right stupid.

BUT what pisses me of is if changes are made now, particularly without thought, It's like I have to pay someone else's speeding fine. FMD

P.S. I hate predictive text. It's a bastard.

I have cameras but only the actual alarm system is a requirement.
If their surveillance system was recording then it should be a great assist in the investigation I would think.

The inference was that surveillance systems were bad. Does my head in.
If it helps catch a crim it's good.
If used against cops, it's bad, ban it. Wankers.

But not calling for better Policing of the manufacture , distribution and use of illegal drugs which I bet is the true underlying cause of this whole thing . While authorities refuse to focus on the real reasons for things like this , it will only get worse and worse.

John, FFS, there has been NO evidence that the three vermin involed were on drugs mate.
None

That is purely your own personal supposition.
They were fundamentalist baptists John, one was a pastor, not your average meth smokers.

Fundamentalism, extremism, conspiracy and lunacy were to blame.

Please show us even ONE verified police report stating that they were drug users, because in fairness to your opinion on this I have tried and failed to find any.

But there aren't John.

There are locals saying there was a drug problem "in the area".

As I said, please show us a link to evidence, not personal supposition.

Im not trying to start a fight with you or be the thought police John, so put it back in your pants mate.

You can believe it was aliens from youranus that caused it if that makes you feel better about it.
But if it's not true, and there's not only no evidence to prove it, but also actual evidence to the contrary why harp on it?

Can you at least say why you believe, contrary to all the evidence, that these fundamentalist christians were drug abusers?

John is just expressing a view that drugs are likely involved. No evidence but given their prevalence in crime not a unreasonable assumption.

I understand that OB.

That's not my point. It's that all evidence points in a different direction and that there's absolutely NO evidence that the vermin were drug users.

The police hate drug users as much as John appears to, and the vermin would have been tox screened during post mortem.

If that had shown drugs present the police would have been very loud about it as a contributor, would they not?

I think we are in agreement. But it's early days. More info/evidence to come. (That's if you can call the news evidence??) It's possible he is right. We just have to wait and see.

Look at the couple that disappeared in the wanangatta. Still to go to trial. We still don't have all the facts.

So, in the fullness of time who knows what will come to light

You're right OB.

I too have hobby-horses I can tend to push, but I find evidence based assumptions are more often proven.

Forget journo hype, the hyperbole from personnel in blue isn't helpful.

"Considerable weaponry"?

What does that mean?
Any kind of inventory?

The dailymail article in the other thread covering this one mentions a 30-06 rifle, a .22LR and a shotgun of some description. If that's the sum of the Train's firearm repository, that's hardly a weapons cache.

Agree with comments above that inflammatory or at least vague language like "weapons" doesn't help.

Many common household items are utensils for their intended purpose and weapons if used to harm (or even threaten harm).

I've got an axe, a log splitter and a cane knife at home. The axes chop wood for the pizza oven and the cane knife is used as a peel to move the pizzas around and cut the end result into pieces. Tools or weapons? It depends.

Also, FWIW, sensible harmonisation of firearms laws and registration across the country has merit.

But hasn't that ship sailed 25 or so years ago?

There would need to be some considerable alignment to get that sorted now, wouldn't there?

From what I can make out, no state can lay claim to being the model to follow in terms of both framework and effective, timely service to legitimate firearm owners.

Time will tell.
