Lots of useful information in the article in that link OB
30-06 appears to be the author’s favourite, which coincides with my view. Can’t believe he left out the 7.62x39 however.......

He is wrong when he states that we have a minimum of .270Win or .243Win though, we have neither.
I don't know why he skipped entirely over iron sights with this though "The last and most important item is the scope. No matter how potentially accurate the rifle may be, it will only be as accurate as the scope you select" as if you can't hunt at all unless you have a scope.
I bought two local deer hunters rifles, my Win94 .30-30 and my sporterised M1903/38 8x57mm, neither of them scoped. Scopes do have limitations, as do iron sights - it's nice to have the option of swapping between them to suit the situation.

Open sights, I used a peep for a long time. Not a bad option, but a scope beats open sights hands down. IMO

I think most shooters today way over-scope their rifles for hunting.

My mistake. Not 7.62x39 but .357 mag.
That's bordering on criminal animal cruelty.
Good luck with the blood trail.

So, how did the 357 magnum go?
Got pics?

It hasn't been the right time of year for stalking Sambar, surely you would know this!

I think he was asking why it's the wrong time of year for sambar. I thought they're out there all the time. Some times of the year they're easier to find and sometimes they're harder, but they are out there.

Really! I would never have guessed that.
