The only useful review of it the guy had issues with ejection and is waiting on parts to fix it. He has been unable to do any serious accuracy testing of it yet, but has taken bear and coyote with it so it seems to work.

I think the incredible weight knocks it out of the budget category.

It's light because it has a skinny barrel and a carbon stock? Could you get a carbon stock and bolt it to any action you like and have something similar in weight? How much lighter is it over a Tikka Lite with its Tupperware stock?

Nope, a carbon stock is only marginally lighter than a polymer one. Somehow they got the barrel and action down to a ridiculous weight. The only reason I'm interested is to find out how they managed it :-)
The complete rifle is lighter than a Howa 1500 barrelled short-action - without a stock.

Remington made a Titanium action a few years ago, pop a skinny short barrel on it and a light stock. That would be something special.
From what I can tell this Howa is 200 grams lighter than the next lightest Howa and 600 grams lighter that the Tikka Lite.

Howa 1500 short action is around 3400gm.

I machined 2 inches off my rimfire barrel and that made it nearly 100 grams lighter. I think I have an idea where they saved the weight.

If they left the entire barrel off it would save about 1200gm I think, this still has a 22" barrel like everything else.

How do you think they managed it?
I want to get one and strip it so I can weigh every piece.

They shortened the overall length of the receiver by a few millimetres, so that saved a little bit. And the stock saves a few hundreds grams.

Watched the video.
Pay through the nose for a mediocre quality "super light" rifle and trim away every milligram you can so you can put a monster scope on it.
Makes sense to me.

You can still buy the last of the Remington Ti actions thru PTG, landed here they would be about the same cost as the Howa, add another $2-2.5K for a CF stock and quality barrel.

He did say the glass was temporary :-)

I wouldn't call that price paying through the nose. It's more than I'd want to pay for a general purpose rifle, but I couldn't make any sub-$1000 bolt rifle that light for that money. And after the first hour in the bush I'd probably be thinking that extra cost was worth every cent. Use a QD scope or irons or a reflex and you have a bolt rifle that's lighter than the Win94 lever-action.

I really want to know whether it groups or if cold-bore shots are all you get from it. I haven't found anybody that's actually shot paper with one yet.

Hard to tell from some of the videos but it does appear the bolt handle has lost a little meat and the action itself seems to have had it's diameter reduced too. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some internal lightening of the bolt. Honestly surprised they managed the weight without a carbon fiber barrel though.

The construction of the carbon fiber stock also matters a fair bit. It'd be cool to weigh it up next to a similar manners offering.

EDIT: Also looks like the bottom metal is fully polymer too.

Could you buy a $600 Howa, dock the barrel to 16 inches. Take a grinder to the action and bolt removing every bit of metal you dare to and come up with something lighter than the "Super lite"?

Not even close. As I said, if you bought a 22" Howa 1500 in .308 and unscrewed the barrel entirely it would still be heavier than this - 3400gm down to about 2150gm. A barrelled 1500 short-action weighs 2400gm with no stock or magazine.

My 308 LW Sporter Fluted barrel in a Hi-Tec Carbon Stock weighs 5 pounds 14 ounces (2664 gm )
Total cost is under $1500 and it shoots sub moa with my handloads .

Image

Here is a pic of it fully dressed with scope ( haven't weighed it with scope ) with my other Howa .223 heavy barrel fluted Stocky's Carbon Stock .

OK. Edited to $1600. My mistake.

Would you pay double for just over 1 lb ?
I wouldn't.

Once I had it in my hands I might. Lop 5" off the muzzle, a couple inches off the butt stock, it could make a very, very light and handy bush rifle. Fit a front sight and a rear aperture.
