Certainly doesn't look like a Cadet to me, everything about it that I can see strongly suggests a Model 12a from the foresight to the cleaning rod hole in the back of the action to the loop under the barrel is exactly like my old BSA Model 12, to which I fitted a No8 sight like yours to make my rifle the same as the 12a. Does it have a Kangaroo on the Nocks form?

There is no kangaroo marks, only BSA trade marks

It could well be an 8a, they both looked very similar. The 26" barrel on the 8a was 2 1/2" to 3" (early model) shorter than the 28 1/2" Model 12, and the action on the Model 8 & 8a was thinner at 1" compared to the Model 12. 13. 15 & 12/15 with 1 1/4" wide actions. All of these rifles were Target models however and none of them were Cadet rifles.

Nice, they all shoot very well. When I was younger and shot Smallbore with a Model 12 the bloke I bought it from used a Model 8 and he was club champion shooting against Internationals Mk 1, 2 & 3. I had been using a Lithgow Model 12, the BSA was actually not that much better than the heavy barrel Lithgow ( or I was just a sh** shot with both!!!). Does your foresight still flip over from ring to post? Some owners fixed them in one position.

What kind of scores are these rifles capable of in terms of today's smallbore scene? Anyone shot 100s at 20m? I pick a model 12 up soon....

That's very nice! Is that 10 shots? I hope mine shoots like that, I'm keen to try it at some informal 20 and 50m smallbore target shooting. I love BSA rifles, they know how to make a good barrel. I will post some pictures when I collect mine next week. I think some previous owner has removed the rear leaf sight, but it has the NO 7a rear peep.

Just realized your rifle is an International, they shoot very well. I had one about 30 yrs ago, but traded it for a Match 54 when i shot Smallbore competitively.
Although the Match 54 shot better, i wish i still had the International. Love the period correct scope too! Black Match ammo is the best too i believe. If a rifle wont shoot with the black match, its safe to say it dont shoot. I preferred it over Tenex....
