The 26" barrel on the 8a was 2 1/2" to 3" (early model) shorter than the 28 1/2" Model 12, and the action on the Model 8 & 8a was thinner at 1" compared to the Model 12. 13. 15 & 12/15 with 1 1/4" wide actions. All of these rifles were Target models however and none of them were Cadet rifles.
