In a news report yesterday it was said that these rare old handguns could be made operational again and used for criminal activity. More media scaremongering me thinks

Det Supt John Watson said “We believe these firearms may have been sold to members of the public who aren’t aware they are stolen."

You'd have to be either bent or thick to buy handguns that fell off the back of the proverbial truck.

“NSW currently has an amnesty in place for unregistered and prohibited firearms meaning you will not be prosecuted for returning these firearms to a registered firearms dealer or police station”.

^^^
I worked with a bloke years ago who had an unregistered shotgun and he won his court case because he told the police who searched his car that he was on the way to drop it off to a dealer. Only reason the magistrate believed him was because he was pulled over for speeding and he told the officer who was giving him the fine what he was doing. Otherwise they would not of searched his car.
